Prince Image Ban Story Was " Exaggerated " ... A company working on behalf of PRINCE has accused fans of exaggerating a story which claims the singer has ordered them to remove any image that bears his likeness from their websites. The singer's record company has hired internet monitoring company Web Sheriff to protect the Purple Rain star from internet copyright infringement - and they insist the fan sites have made the situation sound a lot worse than it actually is. The pop superstar angered many of his supporters after he was reported to have slapped an image ban on several high profile fan websites forbidding them to use any unauthorized pictures of him. The outraged websites joined forces to form Prince Fans United in protest and have vowed to fight any legal action. But Web Sheriff insist Prince himself has nothing to do with the lawsuit threat - it is the work of the "record label". Web Sheriff's managing director, John Giacobbi, says, "At no time is Prince suing his fans and this is not about freedom of speech. "The current issue is one between Prince's record label and three unofficial web sites and relates to the use of Prince trademarks and photographs, many of which are Prince's copyright."

http://www.eonline.com/ne...id=fd-news Interesting quote from the article: A spokesman for Prince Fans United disputes those assertions, telling E! Online the fansites are all run on a voluntarily basis, without commercial intent. "Web Sheriff's statement that Prince per se is not suing personally is a technicality at best," the rep said. "Many of the photos are copyright[ed] to the fans who posted them, many were provided to us directly by the photographers with permission, many are copyrighted to record labels. We have asked many times for them to identify which photos they believe infringe their clients' rights but received only blanket replies to remove all photos." Prince's demands are way beyond the pale, because they "go further and demand removal of his 'likeness,' including demands to disable search code that allows users to search housequake.com for the term prince," the spokesmann continued. |

http://www.contactmusic.c...ed_1049253 Princes record label care for images of Prince created throughout his career? If the record label is "portraying" Prince as trying to destroy his fans' right to discuss and use images etc AND THIS IS NOT TRUE - then surely the record label is about to get sued by Prince. Confusing stuff. As equality grows, violence declines.

From the beginning I felt this was all exaggerated and things were just being blown out of proportion.

http://www.contactmusic.c...ed_1049253 many... meaning not all. Taken from a direct quote from the sheriff. So this surely does not explain their claim to all the removed material.

I've been wondering this entire time if it's Prince himself or the record label. We know how Prince is but we also know how record labels are and they have no mercy.
My take on this is that Web Sheriff and the record label screwed up a bit and together with the fams it's been blown out of proportion. Like BIG time

Thousands of people go the electric chair... Many of whom are guilty and deserve it. I am laughing hard at the absurdity of this. These dramas generate much more interesting discussion than the Planet Earth album at least.
