All of the bad mouthing over his actions is getting out of hand.

I mean, it's called a fansite, right? Aren't fans people who actually support and care about the output of an artist so much that they come here to discuss it and make friends who share similar opinions of said artist?

I look around here lately and I see few people who fit my definiton of fan, which is a synonym for supporter/admirer.

I'm not saying that I agree with the extents that he's going to in order to censor [and perhaps silence] fansites. But I don't think he really wants to go through all this trouble. Maybe he feels its something he has to do. They do say he is overprotective of his work, right? That's why he wanted his masters back for WB and got into the whole battle. This is probably the exact same thing, but on a far greater scale so more people are affected.

People claim that Prince owes them. I don't think he owes us anything. He has given us his musical gifts in album form almost yearly. Few other artists distribute that much material. They should be grateful he's at least giving us that.

Ok, I must admit from day one you've gotten on my nerves a bit with your constant lack of acceptance for anyone who has even a tiny problem with Prince.

He is NOT God. He's simply a man with talent and money.

And right now he's abusing those things with these lawsuits.

Without his fans he wouldn't even HAVE the money in order to sue these sites. Did you ever think of it that way? That without his fans YOU yourself wouldn't even know of Prince? A successful artist is only successful with a fanbase. Why in the WORLD is he suing us for dedication?

And if i were a famous singer I'd want my fans to have different opinions on me. I'd want them to pick up on it when I do something wrong. I wouldn't want them to think I'm the Greatest and i most CERTAINLY wouldn't want to silence them or anger them at this stage in my career.

Look at it from both sides for once Dreamy. He wants people's TATTOOS banned. He wants all fansites shut down. You love it here don't you? Imagine not being able to come here and post reviews and ask questions because Prince thinks you shouldn't be seen or heard? Basically, it seems like he's erasing his whole legacy. What will be left when he dies? Anything?

You need to calm down and wake up a bit Dreamy. Actually Dreamy is a decent name for you since that's the vibe I've gotten from you since day one. Wake up, honey, Prince isn't that amazing.

When Prince is gone he will be remembered for his mid-80s output and his name change to a symbol. The same 5 albums will be available for sale at stores, and his 90's music will be forgotten entirely.

He will be considered a genius, but an eccentric one.

"and his 90's music will be forgotten entirely"?

I think this is what I really like about Prince, he's so aware of this that's why he's moved online and taken the big corps on, their will be no record shops in the future his 90's music will be online and ready to download on to any mediaplayer we choose..that why he's protecting his image rights and the bootlegs as he wants to control the disty channels..that includes fan sites..he's smart! - digital right's it's here people - that's the new masters cool

No he doesnt owe us anything. We dont owe him anything either. BUT...he wanted to be a musician...and became a great one...signed his name to a label and became a public figure. Whatever he created for the public to hear and we loved it, his creation is SHARED for everyone...not just him. If he didnt want to be in public eye and share his creativity to the world, he should pack up his guitar and go home.

* To learn more about Prince's career from those who've known him longer
* Find out which albums I should have in my collection
* To discuss his music and almost everything relating to him

I've gained a lot of knowledge in the short time I've been here.

But I didn't sign up for the disapproval rating towards Prince.

Wait a minute.
I thought we went through this already in another thread.
You've been a Prince fan for months.
The majority of people in here have been (or were fans) for YEARS.
We've earned the right to disapprove with his recent actions.

But I didn't sign up for the disapproval rating towards Prince.
All of the bad mouthing over his actions is getting out of hand.

Then what did you sign up for, blind loyalty? A cult? The more i think about it, that's what i think Prince thought he was building all these years. A cult. A purple kool-aid swilling flock of sheep that would blindly listen to him and think that the sky is purple, just cuz he said so.

I mean, it's called a fansite, right? Aren't fans people who actually support and care about the output of an artist so much that they come here to discuss it and make friends who share similar opinions of said artist?

Where does it say that to be a "fan" that you have to agree with everything an artist does? Where does it say "you like the music, therefore you have to love the man?" There's a reason why there's more than one message board in here. We're all not just here to discuss Prince. Or to all hold hands and sing "everybody's looking for The Ladder."

I'm not saying that I agree with the extents that he's going to in order to censor [and perhaps silence] fansites. But I don't think he really wants to go through all this trouble. Of course he wants to go through all this trouble, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it.

This isn't about his whole battle with Warner Brothers (and if you want the real deal on what went down and why, ask i'll explain it to you), this is about his ever-growing paranoia and need to try to control what everyone in the world thinks and says about him. He's literally become "The Kid" from Purple Rain.

People claim that Prince owes them. I don't think he owes us anything. He has given us his musical gifts in album form almost yearly. Few other artists distribute that much material. They should be grateful he's at least giving us that.

I don't think he owes me anything. You misunderstand. I don't owe HIM anything. Not loyalty, not to have his back, not to try to understand where he's coming from, none of it. You've been around for a couple of months, so you've given Prince what, a few hundred bucks and a few months of your life? And you REALLY can't understand that there are people that over the years have given Prince THOUSANDS of their hard earned dollars, and they resent the hell out of having someone that got rich off them tell them what to think , how to feel and where to say it? He didn't "give" us musical "gifts". WE PAID FOR THEM. WITH OUR HARD EARNED MONEY. So pardon us, if we don't feel we deserve to have a purple crap dropped on our collective heads.

I apologize if this comes across as being a little cranky, but I have a problem with someone who's been around for a couple of months trying to lecture me on how to be a Prince fan.

Sorry, but you weren't around back in '99' when Asswipe tried to shut down the greatest fan mag ever printed --UPTOWN MAG. Prince did the same thing to them to get sole control of them or shut them down. Well they got a lawyer and fought him in court and won their case. Yay UPTOWN MAG! Most of us support this mag for standing up to him and fighting him in court. For most of us, this was the greatest source of info before the explosion of the internet fan sites.
I can't tell you how much fun it was to wait every other month to get that mag and see what new info and songs were out. And to find out so much more about other country fan recordings and tour books and rare items that were not available in the U.S.

Imagine a great fan mag that included articles and pics sent to them by Paisley Park and participated in some of the interviews to now have to fight him in court or close down.

Now he is dowing it again. The long time fans have been thru this before and get tired of him trying to control the fansites he may not agree with.

Welcome to real life. This is who we are and how we feel about it. You don't have to agree but don't assume that the long time fan has not seen this all before.

I didn't read any of ur comments yet.

I just wanted to say that I'm going to read through this thread before I turn in for the night.

Depending on how the posts are going will affect whether or not I will return.

Right now, I don't think I'll be able to return here. Not with all the negativity goin' round.

Frankly, I just want to chill with Prince and enjoy his music like I always have. I don't need to have this weight on my shoulders affecting my listening.

Haha, I'm halfway through an album and this is all I can think about.

But one thing I will do in light of the circumstances... just in case, I'm going down to the computer lab tomorrow and print out all of the blog entries I've written about Prince. Just in case the worst happens, I want to have that piece of history to take with me.

Okay, continue discussing. cool

Actually, if you're taking votes, i say go.
You don't want to come back here.

You're going to want to PAY to join 3121.com or some other Prince approved site, and then wait for him to instruct you as to how to worship him.

Yeah, i said it.

Genre bending. Innovative. Controversial. And overall absolute genius, Prince can take anything .. I mean anything!!!! and express it with equal parts eloquence and shocking vulgarity.

Prince has never been one to shy away from controversy. Obviously, this whole lawsuit business lately is proof of that. Even if he's stopped cursing, and singing about having sex with virgins who are on the rag, he still knows how to stir stuff up.

But there was a time when his music was what ilicited all the responses. When it spoke for itself. No need for wearing assless pants, no need to make outlandish statements on magazines and other means--you could just get it from a record.

But one thing that always struck me was that Prince juxtaposed all manner of subjects, otherwise blush worthy to any other musician, effortlessly and with no sense of shame or embarassment whatsoever. It was like he pulled his nuts out of his silky lace panties and said, "Look bitches--check these hairy bad boys out. I may strut around in lace women's underwear, but I overflow with machismo!"...then boomerang his pumps at cha.

Anyways, sex, love, and spirituality -- these things are always pitted against each other in strange dualistic battles on his albums. but when viewed from afar, Prince is actually treating all these as one continuam. They are just different colors of his passion. He went from one end to the other with his songs.

Speaking of the other end, one of the things he seems to have an obsession with is the female hind quarters--perhaps even male, but that's always up for debate. But you always hear him talking about "ass" but never what he wants to do with it. It's as if he's not totally confortable with that region of the human body.
One could probably reckon that this was due to some repressed latent homosexual fantasy that was surfacing but being stiffled before it could shine in all its glory, but I propose that Prince was probably just revealing how hygenic and sometimes prissy he could be. The anus, after all, is more difficult to keep clean than vaginas and penises. Sure, Prince could easily say "I sincerely want to fuck the taste out of your mouth", but you'd never catch him say "I sincerely want to slush the poop in your ass with my dick"--There's a line that even Prince wont cross, especially if it involves hygiene.

His obsession with hygiene is apparent in his interview with Oprah Winfrey. When she asked him if he always dressed nice, he replied, "On a normal day I'm clean". Now obviously, he's being hip with lingo here, cause being "clean" also means to look sharp, but let's not kid ourselves here--Prince loves double meaning. He obviously means that on a normal day he keeps his ass fresh.

But if you think about it, the asshole or anus is just the other opening of a very long tube leading to your mouth. And in between there's digestion. Digestion of the words, the ideas, the very visualizations that flow throughout his work. Even when he says "Dont hate me cause Im beautiful", he says it like he's got food in his mouth. He goes further in that very same song (Pretty man) and says "Maceo--can U blow?" , which again HAS A DOUBLE MEANING! Always with the double meaning. But you can also hear this in many many songs. In Poom Poom Poom, he sings the chorus as if he's taking a massive dump, and he even does the Poom Poom rap like he's chewing on something. Its as if ALL bodily functions are not sacred to Prince. They're all worthy of expression.

And express he does. It was said once in some magazine that where Marvin Gaye cracked the bedroom door open a wee bit with "Let's Get it On", Prince tore that bitch off it's hinges!

vegasE

THIS IS GETTING REAL UGLY IN HERE.
PEOPLE..IT'S ALL IN THIS SONG...LISTEN TO IT. REALLY LISTEN TO IT.
YOU CANT SAY HE DIDN'T WARN YOU!!

Sitting on the floor of an all white room
Feeling like the color blue
Thinking about the words that I can use
2 get this through 2 U

A million mistakes and then some
I've made with the 1's B4
I probably passed my expiration date
But still I adore U... Adore U...

Looking 4 the energy 2 take U there
The place's that U wanna go
Knowing if I do, U'r fully aware
The press will turn it in to a show

Everyone expects this outcome
But still they jump 4 all the crew
I Guess should be happy but I'm still not
Sure that U realy love me...

Love me... Love me... Love me... U love me...

Like the Lion of Judah
I Strike my enemys down
As my God is living
Surely the trumpet will sound
There was 1 who would stand by my side
Through the good and the bad
Let that 1 stand with pride
The best that I ever had

Like the lion of judah

Driving away with a smile on my face
Wind blowing through my hair
Wondering how U'll feel when U find out
How much I really care (I care)

Hoping that the tears roll down U'r face (Down U'r face)
Your body grasp who we are (Who are we?)
2 gypsy beggars who only by Vegas
Came 2 be a star
(A super star)
A star
That's what we are...

Like the Lion of Judah (Judah)
I strike my enemys down
Like the lion of judah (Judah)
Surely U....gonna hear the trupet sound
Hear the trumpet will sound

The Lion of Judah
