lion of judah in my opinion, this is one of his best songs, near perfection both musically and lyrically...but i hear a lot of people have a go at its religious leanings, but i dont see how the spiritual side is very implied.
to me, its about your love for someone not being reciprocated, and the lion of judah seems more like a prayer for some kind of miracle to help. fair enough about the lion of judah lyric being more leaned towards a religious perspective, but on the whole, i just think of a beautiful and sad song about longing for someones love. anyone agree? Wouldn't you love to love me?

The Bible reference threw me for the longest time.
I had no idea what the song was about or what he meant. But it's a great song musically and lyrics, I agree. And I hear its great driving music I've gotten into it quite a bit lately. All I can figure is that Prince is still a little unsure about opening his heart to love again because he's been hurt before. And he strikes his enemies down to protect himself from getting hurt again. Great song had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Great song yeah, i totally agree with that view actually. i love the 2 parts where he sings softly with the female vocals behind him when he says 'love me' and 'adore you'...so sad and heartfelt. Wouldn't you love to love me?

It's one of the best songs he's officially released in years IMO.
I don't get the hate (other than from people who only like Prince's R&B/pop stuff). As for any religious aspect to the song, the title is a metaphor and there is more religious preaching in Chelsea Rodgers, yet that is one of the most popular songs on the album

the fact that hardcore fans hate this song disturbs me greatly, i think its one of his best / most Prince sounding tracks, its what he's all about and I think its up there with the likes of Anna Stesia and Joy in Repetition.

Great song Kind as you are, i just want to say this : Karmically speaking one does have to "strike one's enemies down to protect oneself or be in Karmic Disobedience. If one doesn't Fight Back or i.e., "Strike Back at their enemies" than that soul would be in Karmic Disobedience! So We have to Stand Up Against and Fight Back Against Abuse and Abusive People! So, Therefor, Prince is Always Doing the Right Thing. Regina Carma.
