It seems like he is throwing away all of the hard work he has put into his relevancy (RRHOF, Superbowl, multiple award shows/albums)over the past 3 or so years.

ON some levels, it seems like he is wanting to generate controversy by keeping himself in the headlines for doing something equal to career suicide.

On other levels, it reminds me in a very round about way of him trying to purge himself of the mainstream success he has gained over the last three years (kinda of like Bowie did with Tin Machine to erase the memories of the Let's Dance/mainstream 1980's era)

Then another part of me thinks that he really has become a tool. Yes it is his art and he believes in ownership of his masters yada, yada, yada, but as a man who thinks of himself as a musician/artist, his works are in the public domain and his name is in the public domain to be interpreted and used any way his fans see legally fit. He seems to have become $$+> instead of o(+>, a man driven by profit and cheap marketing tactics/promotion to stay relevant instead of being a groundbreaking visionary known for his music.
