Mr. Goodnight Wasn't that a character in an old Richard Pryor movie called "Which Way Is Up?" Anyway, how does Mr. Goodnight do? I was listening to this on the way home from work and I don't care what some haters say-this is the jam!!!

I dunno about the question...
but this is my FAVORITE song on Planet Earth... because it's the most enjoyable. I won't go into the details After all, he wants us 2b hush-hush about what goes on Let's just say that Prince had me from "hello" as soon as this song started when I heard it the first time... and the rest is history. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I usually have 1 or 2 favorite songs per CD or CD per box set, and this is my favorite too. How sexy is that voice. I have waterfalls in my backyard and he is more than welcome to come over to my neighborhood, but I think that is a differnt song. None the less, the invitation stands.

It seems like with each album, he has to put a sellout song on it. On "Musicology" it was "Illusion, Coma, Pimp, and Circumstance", on "3121" it was "Incense and Candles", and on "Planet Earth" it's "Mr. Goodnight".
Enough with the shit hop vibe. Don't even put one song like that on the album. If the youngsters like Prince on their own, fine, but if they don't, fuck 'em. Don't put a sellout song on the album trying to draw them in. . . [Edited 11/2/07 14:28pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Do you mean it as hip-hop, because Mr Goodnight couldn't be further from Hip-hop if it tried. Personally I think that Prince is waaaay beyond wanting to put songs on his albums just to appeal to the youngsters - Obviously I don't know him or how his mind works but I think that he puts down the songs that he likes, just because he can. I get the impression that he stopped caring what people wanted a long time ago and is in it for personal gratification. Just my humble opinion I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

I can't stand hip-hop... let me tell, Mr. Good-night ain't hip-hop. i don't know how anyone would get that idea (aside from Prince rapping thru the whole song). It's very smooth R&B if you want to put it in a category. I believes as well that Prince writes whatever he feels he wants to write. Since when he really been concerned with pleasing people so they'd buy his music? Sure, there are a few cases where he does... but otherwise, he writes what he feels and what his heart wishes him to write. I can't fathom what would bring he to write Mr. Goodnight... I just want to believe that it was an inspired move on his part and he did what he felt was right. if I wished anything different, I wish he made the song a bit longer. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
