Around The World In A Day

Today I was at a used wrekka stow and I saw a Prince item that I have never found before. It was the CD of Around The World In A Day in a printed cardboard sleeve. It slid inside a gate-fold 12" x 6" printed cardboard package.
The package opened up to be about 12" x 12". Inside were the lyrics and more art. It used the regular ATWIAD artwork throughout, so it was very colorful.

It was only $12. I know it must be somewhat rare. What's the story on this thing? I coudn't find any info as to country of origin. Should I get it? Anyone in the Minneapolis area been looking for this? I can tell you which wrekka stow it's at.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's not the "longbox" that Cd's with jewel cases used to come in (I still have mine). This has a pocket inside that the 5" cardboard sleeve slides into. It's very different.
Still interested? Org note me.

The first pressings were in this format. In 1985, hardly anybody had Cd players. I got my first in 1987, making Sign O The Times, and The Joshua Tree as my first Cds. I got the original Around The World Cd a few weeks later. I later bought the Jewel box version years later, to avoid scratching up my original.

You're right. The first time I got one it was the same format. I don't think I have mine anymore.

I didn't go digital until '87. And even then, it was a long process to replace my now obsolete vinyl. My first CD was Husker Du's "Candy Apple Grey". My first Prince disc was SOTT. Still gots my vinyl Prince records though, I can't bear to part with the large format artwork. My wife still gets on me about all of my old "longboxes" in storage though. I kept them all.

I don't complain about her damn Christmas figurines...
