17 DAYS I've been listening to his royal badness allot lately and I love Prince's fast songs. But, I believe I'm more in love with his slow jams. However, there is one song that stands out the most to me where his fast and or mid-tempo jams are concerned. That would be 17 Days!
I don't know what he had gone through while writing that song or if he'd gone through anything with the exception of creativity. But, 17 DAYS is my shit! PRINCE came with that jam like"how ya' like me now!?!?!?"

Definitely one of my favorite b-sides, for sure
Although, I think that Alexa de Paris is a b-side as well... and if so, that's my hands-down favorite in that category. This is a sweet little song and sometimes, haha, when I hear someone say 17 days or its the 17th day of October, I think of this song automatically. Pretty good considering its the b-side of When Doves Cry. When I heard it the first time, I swear there was magic in the air. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Did Prince ever smoke cigarettes? I remember that line in the song about having 2 cigarettes.

I think my favorite part of the song is the use of keyboards that he uses.
Like in the part where he sings "ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 17 days"... those keys make it sound like snowing is falling on the ground. That's the vision I get when the song starts. He plays those keys and I can picture him dancing in circles in his PR-jacket as snow is falling on the ground. Beautiful picture, but at the same time, he feels cold and lonely, so that's a little sad too. The song cheers me up and its kinda sad. Edit: he says "let the rain fall down"... he says rain, but I see snow. And isnt snow a little more approriate anyway (it IS Minneapolis we're talking about here ) [Edited 10/30/07 10:19am] had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I think the song was originally written for Apollonia 6 with Brenda singing that part. "Always blessings, never losses......"

His piano version of 17 Days is great as well, which was record in 1983 during a piano session.

Yet more proof that his B-Sides back in the day were/are a hell of a lot better than most people's released material.
