Never thought about moving to London - sounds pretty backward where you are - we certainly don't trip out over here biggrin cool

Are you saying that London doesn't trip over race???? confused I guess you haven't seen Five Days on HBO. Ya'll "trip" just as much as everyone else you just wanna think you don't.

what is five days on HBO??? and no we don't trip out partly because it is illegal in public life and London is a pretty open-minded city
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

I also noticed the white girls being placed in all black settings back in those early years. I thought it was cool as hell.

I also used to love how Prince's white band members such as Lisa, Fink, and Bobby Z. had no problem with being part of the very few white people in the entire building with thousands of black people. What I loved the most was how the black audience accepted them and had no problem with them. Black people have always been more accepting of white people entering their setting than the other way around. Remember Prince opening for The Rolling Stones in front of all those white fans? lol

Well, like I posted in mty thread, P was sending a few different messages out to the public. And to make it clear, he wrote the song Ice Cream Castles and made it the title track of The Time's album. A track that in no way shape or form, fit The Time doing. The music was a cool change for The Time, but not the subject matter. And the video sucked. Morris looked like he hated doing it. It was over for them, as a band, by then anyways. Pity too cuz they had become very popular.

nod I would have to agree with you on that point. Pretty much with that song, the only thing that fit The Times vibe with that cut was the groove and bassline because the lyrics probably didn't fit Morris' agenda.

The thread isn't about which brother slept with what race and why. It's strictly about P's inclusion of white girls in a "black" music atmosphere. Which hadn't really been done before on such a broad scale on an album. He wanted to paint a picture, sonically and visually, of this. And by doing so, it added to the sound, for better or worse. But it was different from what other black artists were doing at that time.

Brutha B you're right..I never looked at it that way before. Sly and not even P-Funk had white females in their groups in the 70's. Rick James had Teena and a another white female back up singer in his group, but Rick didn't take it further ahead like P did.

I think that element helped him cross over even more. I remember seeing a lot of girls I knew dressing up like Wendy and Lisa after they saw the "Purple Rain" movie or concert.

B..here's a funny and crazy thought..Can you imagine if the 1977-78 KISS had Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, and Donna Summer singing backgrounds on their LP's to reach out to the black audiences? LOL.

Dude, considering "The Brady Bunch" had gone off the air 11 years before "1999" came out, I just don't think P was referring to Marcia Brady.

But maybe I'm wrong...

As I posted in other posts on this same thread, I was being silly by saying he was actually talking about Marcia Brady. Because he could be saying Marcia instead of martian, I just tagged Brady behind it. That isn't what the thread is about anyways. I gotta tell ya'll and I've said this before, P fans are some of the most uptight and no having a sense of fun mofos out there. I mean, u actually got into talking about when the show was last aired and shit. U couldn't relate to what the core of the thread was about so u just zoomed in and nit picked on some little ass shit about how much time had passed between Oct 82 and when the last show aired of The Brady Bunch?! Player, they aired that show so much in re-runs since it's been cancelled, it's not even funny. Or he could have always dug Marcia. If that indeed is who he's refering to. Damn. Again, me even mentioning Brady was me being funny. Not that ya'll would take that and run to the Supreme Court with it and shit. "Your honour, listen..(panting) there is some longhaired black dude who plays guitar who posted on my beloved Prince Org saying something that is somewhat disturbing to me. It's an image that I don't want to see when I close my eyes at night. Is it true that Prince was refering to my all American Marcia Brady in his 1982 song Let's Pretend W're Married"? Is it?!

Yeah, I knew many white girls that "became" Lisa and wendy during Purple Rain. And I also knew many white girls that were into P during the 1999 album. They related to Lisa and Jill, although she was mixed. p understood that and went after that and he got it. But yeah, Gene is the only one that I can see doing that. Especially since he and Donna were uh,...close.

Wow man, you should write a book about this stuff - gotta inform us all.

I wonder when people will realise that Sly Stone had a multi-racial band in the 70s. Now that will be news.

Like I've stated before, P fans has got to be some of the most uptight and envious fans around. Damn. The sarcastic shit has got to be for u, player. Cuz it's definately not for me. Ain't nobody trying to "inform" anybody. At least I know I'm not. This is simply a discussion forum about P's work. And my take on on a certain element on a certain album. No different than if I stated that on his second album, his ballads echoed The Emotions "Don't Ask My Neighbor". That's not implying that other people haven't noticed it before or not. My threads are about what other people have noticed before. It's not about other people, period. If someone can relate to what they read, then cool. If they have never thought of it in that way before, then still cool. If they don't agree with it, then even better, But this "Oh, I wonder if people realized that Jimi had a white drummer in the 60's? That would be news." shit. That's all for u. Ain't nobody trying to lay down no "news". Where the fuck u are coming from is so waaay off target.

Whoa calm down man - Can't you take a bit of banter? There's just so many dull threads here these days and I'm sorry this is another one.

You don't ask any questions or state anything that isn't old and obvious - so there isn't going to be any interesting discussion. If you have a right to be boring, I can be sarcastic.

Dig, if my thread was so boring, why didn't u stay off it? U must have realised this right from the get, so why even bother to post, what 50, 60 posts deep? IF u even had the 1999 album, you're probably one of the people that hadn't even noticed any of the things I was talking about on your own untill u first saw this thread. And I gotta say vivid, it's ironic that you're all alone with this thought, cuz if u read my other threads regarding the 1999 album, same as u will with this one, u will see folks saying the EXACT opposite of u. Ironically, u will find other's mentioning that I should write a book on the points or angles that I brought up in these threads. And this is hardly the first time that has been mentioned to me.
