"Delirious" was a good single choice, and at the time I thought it was a similar song to "Freezeframe". I just heard singles on the radio back then, never bought anything or reallynoticed much about the artists.
BUT DMSR should have been a single. Maybe it should be a single now! Peeps love it. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

P performed Little Red Corvette of course on that cramped ass little stage. Then he came back on the show sometime later, when WB re-released the single 1999 and he performed that song. Jill and Lisa for some reason looked pissed as hell at P all through the performance. I was like "Damn, I wonder what did P say to their ass?".
But he still rock that mutha' tho To me, this was solid proof (no pun intended), that he wanted that crossover audience...That's why he avoided Soul Train for so long [Edited 11/7/07 16:38pm] U right though, pill. He did turn it out. The 1999 performance was waaay better than Little Red Corvette. U could see he was already getting ready for Purple Rain. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I agree with u and Vain. Let's Pretend didn't do shit out here. WB wasted a single on that song, definately. Black stations out here in L.A. at that time played EVERYTHING by Prince, didn't want to touch that song. And didn't. But yeah, they did play "Irresistible Bitch" quite a bit. I'm thinking that maybe "Let's Pretend...." was too fast and too New Wav-ish for black radio, and maybe it was too suggestive for pop radio? It didn't really take off,as a single.I think the more melodic "Automatic" would have been a better choice.

Good thread B..the "Solid Gold" crowd..lol.
"D.M.S.R" was all over R&B radio back then. The R&B stations by me played it more than the single "1999". That should have been the second single. "Automatic" would have been a great third single. I still hear that song on college radio today. The New Wavers would have had a field day with that jam. "Lady Cab Driver" would have been an excellent single for R&B radio..EDITED of course! (lol) ..that's one of things I love about that LP (plus 'S.O.T.T')..there's something for everybody.

I ran a thread about International Lover a long time ago on here. One of my all time fave ballads by P. His vocals are scary good on that song. Glad he decided to keep it instead of giving it to The Time like he at first planned. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I ran a thread about the 12' version awhile back. To me, THAT'S the ONLY version! The "Little Red Corvette" 12 Inch was all over R&B radio in my area. Before the 12 Inch came out, R&B radio in my area was playing "1999", "D.M.S.R.", Lady Cab Driver", "Automatic", "International Lover", and "Free". They never played "Little Red Corvette" until the 12 Inch came out and that's the only version they played. As a matter of fact, even after the song went out of style and the stations would go back and play an old song every now and then, if they played "Little Red Corvette", it was always the 12 Inch. It was like this for years until CDs took over radio's format. What pissed me off, is that the 12 Inch was so damn hard to find. That's the only 1980s Prince 12 Inch that I don't have on vinyl. None of the record stores in my area carried it. I even got on the phone and called every record store in town and had no luck. I finally got one of the record stores to order it for me. They told me it was an import from London and they would have to order it. When it came in and I got home, I was pissed. The import contained "Little Red Corvette" on one side and "Automatic" and "International Lover" on the other side. However, "Little Red Corvette" was the album version. I think releasing an album version on 12 Inch as pointless and I almost gave the import to a friend years later until I saw on the internet that it was worth $150. My import is in excellent condition too because I rarely played it since it was the album version. I never got the 12 Inch remix version until the CD age. . . . I agree. The 1999 video is the best out of all of his promos for that album. I love the Automatic video but it's too murky looking. The lighting is very hazy. I know that was intentional, but still. Same with Let's Pretend. I like how Dez plays keyboards on the video. I never really liked the video to Little Red for some reason. Good performance but it's something about it. The 1999 video was very sharp and crystal clear. Very colorful. I like how the camera angles up for many of the shots. It's a very cool look. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz.
