Does prince recycle?

I try not to repeat myself. It's the hardest thing in the world to do --- there are only so many notes one human being can master. . - Prince (found on contactmusic.com)

Im sure Ive come across instances where he does repeat himself for instance in his lyrics I keep hearing talk of 'the best that Ive ever had', or butterscotch' or 'chains of gold' etc.

And Im certain I have read threads where people have suggested Prince has reused music from some of his songs.

So, does he recycle his own stuff, and give examples chaps...
Oh Princey if your free for a couple of hours...If you aint busy for the next 7 years...Lets Pretend were married, and go all night..

This one made me laugh too.

Now I'm curious, though. Does he?
Somehow I think he tosses the plastic, paper and glass in with everything else, but it would be nice to think that he does.

lol lol

But, to answer the question, he most certainly does - not just with scales, chords and arrangements, but lyrically as well. However, its not always just down to "recycling", some of these are motifs, a signature, something with which the artist can be readily identified. His prevalant use of the colour purple is the most obvious example, along with lots of other colours. His fondness for numbers. His trademark, high-pitched "Oww-uh-wah". Just a few examples of Prince using the same motifs for artistic identity.

As I opened this, "Big Fun" came on ("Get freak, let the head bob"), which is a good example. Jam of the Year was used a couple times too. And "Dance on the Funk" in a few places.

And the singles for New Power Generation, Cream, Gett Off, Glam Slam, and Alphabet St. all had different songs based on the originals.

The hook from Just as Long as We're Together became the riff in The Glamorous Life.

Tons more, but I can't think of anymore right now.
