Berry

It's no wonder he is a perfectionist!

Overall I have to say that I feel somewhat sorry for Prince. No matter what he does, it's not enough. If I had fans like some of his, I'd lock myself away and work tirelessly too in order to try and meet certain expectations. If anyone thinks for a minute, that what we think, doesn't affect him is a blanket statement that has little truth. I think there is so much pressure for someone like Prince that it has to be overwhelming at times. And to think that it even comes from the fans that claim devotion and love seems so unfair to me.

Prince has done some annoying things, but who hasn't. I just can't imagine if my mistakes were out for all to see and talk about. I feel like lately I have read alot about what Prince should do. What he shouldn't do. How about just saying good luck and we are right behind you!

Well really if you take that attitude others could take the attitude that if some people here don't like Prince maybe they should leave. It's the same thing. Then some of ya'll would say you dont dislike Prince blah blah bla. Well maybe Berry does not dislike the fans here either. Berry has every right to speak her mind just like everybody else with their holier than thou threads.

Don't worry Prince, I'll always love you and support you!
Prince is the best, always was and he always will be!

Oh yeah, Berry U R sooo right!

Prince is really making music 4 us, the memberz/fans/fams/whatever. That´s why we all have Crystal Ball II with all those vault-goodies in our CD player. Not 2 mention that 7 CD Xenophobia set that is being sent out. & I almost 4got: the NPGMC is everything I hoped 4!

Yes, we really do make Prince act like a perfectionist, cause we just simply demand it. Yeah, it´s not in his nature 2 B such a perfectionist. U R Right again.

What do you mean We, I think you so call negative fans should shut up and start a anti-prince site, talk about anything negative and nothing positive ever site.

listening to you jerks, one would think that prince can't sing, can't dance, can't play, can't write, can't read, shouldn't be allowed to live.Hates all whites, hates all jews, hates all other religions and definetly hates atheists.

So much hatred for someone that you claim to dig. And when someone says something positive they are kissing his ass. Thank God you jerks don't determine the outcome of anything,
another thing, you wouldn't know honesty if it bit you in the face. You are being mean.
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

Objectivity Vs. Fawning sycophants

Which would Prince prefer?

Being as discussion requires opinions, to deny those who believe that maybe once Prince didn't do something perfect would be to efffectively close this Forum.

If all you people who dislike opinions would like to tell me that Prince has never released a bad record, has never been less than perfect in dealing with his fans and is all round, the perfect person, then I will listen to your opinion. It won't be right, but I'll listen and I wouldn't start a thread saying how fooloish I think you are. That is the premise of a forum.

Don't get me wrong, I have enough Prince records to open a Prince Museum, but I really dislike people who have no objectivity.

Shoot me. machinegun

Berry, you seem to forget that "we" have supported Prince for two decades now and the ones that are still here have continued to support him in his battle with WB and everything after that. We signed petitions and all that crap, given Prince second and third chances, but nothing really changed.

Why should fans continue to support him unconditionally when, if you would have paid attention in the last 3-4 years, it's clear the man has no respect for fans who don't share his opinions. And it doesn't matter whether it's religion, bootlegging or something else.

There's a thin line between perfectionist and control freak. Prince does things for his own satisfaction, everyone else tends to come second. Some may call that greedy but I think that's just one way of looking at it. Is he really any different to anyone else? I'm not sure.

Lovemachine- If you don't know me by now... telling me to leave is the only thing you could think of in response to this???

Joey- You use the word "unconditional". If you and I met and I walked up and scratched your car, would we be friends? Probably not. That's because there are certain conditions in order for us to be friends. Such as respecting eachothers things.
There are some underlying conditions in this relationship with Prince. And in my opinion some fans put way TOO many conditions on Prince. So much so, that Prince is doomed to fail no matter what. The sad thing is that I think Prince tries. It's just not that obvious to some.
I TRULY believed that if fans tried to look hard at the things he HAS done, they could be so much more appreciative. That's really what this thread is about.

Here are some reminders:

Soundchecks: an opportunity to talk with him. See him prepare. hear samples of what's going to be in the show...

ALL DAY discussion with Femi: a free forum where Femi talked about working with Prince. What his process is like. how the equiptment works. Personal and funny stories about working with Prince.

Paisley Park: First what a BEAUTIFUL place! One year he allowed us to wonder virtually anywhere. Seeing his Oscar (I'm an actor) OH WOW! His dance room, his gym, game room, conference room, etc... so cool.

The MUSIC: goes w/out saying.

Does Prince go around bragging "Hey look what I do for MY fans" to the media? No. Because he does it for us.

You know, while I agree with you Tom and understand and respect your position. I've been a Prince fan for 20 years too.

I think we forget, that P probably has the most diverse fan base of any musician. R&B lovers, Rock, Alternative, Slow Jam, Jazz, Funk, even Metal... Along with diversity comes several different perceptions and opinions. It's nearly impossible to satisfy all of his fans, because we're all so different. It's 'rare' that we can all agree on anything. Unaminous is a word that seldom exists here. It's not a bad thing, it's just that I've thought the samething that Berry has. To try and satisfy all of us, being so different and diverse. It's enough to drive you crazy. I love all music, which is probably the reason I can put in any Prince album, from any era and love it. How many muscians can go from Luther to Hendrix in one album!?

I believe some of us get caught up in our own perceptions of Prince and his music: For Ex: Say I'm a strict R&B/Funk fan. I'd probably dig TRC and parts of Emancipation, yet I'll say some of his other material sux. That's not fair. I should say that, it's not within my muscial taste, or that's not my style. Being a musician myself and visiting this site often, I can say that; being Prince must be a headache with fans like us...not that we're unloyal, or don't love him, it's just that our opinions are so various. If he ever came here for answers, he'll leave just as confused. We are hard to satisfy as a whole...

Back last year: We all anticipated the release to TRC... when it got here...

"This sux! That voice is annoying...to much religious stuff."

Some of us have always wanted a 'live' Prince album: The tracklist is released and...

"Those aren't the songs I wanna hear 'live', more Hits."

Prince kept his religious beliefs and so forth secret a long time...Prince lets us into his mind with a concept album...

"Prince is wrong for being a JW, JW's this and they that!"

Prince's actual race/nationality has not always been clear...then...he somewhat identifies with a particular race, talks about black history, and some American history cover-ups...

"Nobody wants to hear that, Prince has no right, blah-blah-blah...he's not a historian"

Prince has faught for freedom from the restrictions and rules of a contract...

"Why isn't Prince on the charts? Charts, charts, charts...BillBoard this and that...TRL, and MTV...?"

I'm not saying I agree with everything he says or does...I don't actually. But those are his decisions, his choice of religion and lifestyle, I atleast respect that, just as I respect all of you, whom may have different taste and opinions. He releases what he wants now, live or studio, 1987 or 2002. He may have lost alot of us, yet I believe what he's gained, is that of what no musician/icon has ever recieved.(except for Ray Charles and a few other independent artists)

So...if you're so fed up, 20 years is too much, and you've reached your saturation point. Then maybe it's time for you to give Prince a break. Spend some time focusing on other artist you like, love or support. Maybe you'll come back with your confidence in Prince renewed, maybe you'll never give a pooptoast about Prince again...that's up to you. But if you're so sick of it (prince) and everything that has to do with him, stop inflicting it upon yourself...

Just about a Nickel or two...
