[sorry, stupid computer]

Two outtakes from the Purple Rain project.

I listened to them over the week and I've been wondering.

Was "Vibrator" the song that was going to be performed during the "Sex Shooter" scene when Vanity was going to play her role in the movie?

And I realize that it segues right into "G-Spot".
And I heard that it was originally in the soundtrack in place of Darling Nikki.
Is that true and if so, why do you think that change was done?

Of course, I realize it was done because they needed something to really escalate the film and "G-Spot" didn't seem to have the fire to do that. But the theme is roughly the same, where Prince has lost his girl. But in one, he make her out to be the villain and in the other just seems like a continuation of "When Doves Cry" or an alternate version of "17 days"

and yes, I know that "G-Spot" was given to Jill Jones and a version exists where she duets with Prince (which I have).

VIbrator was supposed to be on the next Vanity Album. I am not aware of it almost being used in PR. Nor have I heard G-Spot was to be on that album either. I think that G-Spot might have appeared on the next V-6 album.

IMO, the next Vanity 6 album would have probably been better than the first.

this is the answer I got on dtt-lyrics.com for both songs:

G-Spot
Along with "Sex Shooter" and "Vibrator", "G-Spot" was intended for a second Vanity 6 album. The song is mentioned in, and segues from "Vibrator". Vocals are by Prince on this early version, which is less polished than what ended up on Jill Jones album. The lyrics are practically the same, although at the end Prince imitates James Brown, even calling out the name of Brown's sax player, Maceo Parker, whom Prince would work with years later. The song may have been intended for Purple Rain at one point.

"Vibrator" is a hilarious number that is essentially Vanity's ode to her battery-operated sex toy. This classic Vanity 6 track was recorded in the summer of 1983 in preparation for their second album. It utilizes a drum machine and synth bassline while featuring Prince as a female storekeeper who eventually, after trying Jill Jones' store, sells Vanity her much needed batteries for her "body massager." Prince later used Vanity's vocals on the Madhouse 8 album and the track "Orgasm" from Come.

Anyone hear anything else in addition to this about these tracks?

That pretty much sums up what is known. Maybe an entry in the Vault book tells a little more about these 2 tracks. But you got the gist of it right there.

The reviews on dtt are generally from Uptown publications - these I think came from Turn It Up

The 'Vault' entry on Vibrator provides a bit more e.g. the song was also considered for use on the third Madhouse album.

A version of Sex Shooter exists with Vanity on vocals so it is unlikely Vibrator was considered for that scene before Vanity left the production.

When it comes to the g-spot,
let the vibrator do all the work,
I always say.
I'm not wasting a lay on something that may eventually turn out to be just a myth anyways.

"G-spot" was considered for Purple rain at one point because I remember reading an early script of PR that is/was online somewhere (maybe someone has the link?)... "G-spot' is mentioned as a song that Prince and the Revolution perform at the club-- "Electric Intercourse" was also performed in this scene, but both were replaced by "the Beautiful Ones."

Exactly.I have a copy of the early 'Purple Rain' script, and it definitely includes a scene where Prince and The Revolution are performing "G-Spot" at the nightclub.

I'm thinking that "G-Spot" was later replaced by "Darling Nikki"? I think "The Beautiful Ones" replaced "Electric Intercourse" as well.

G-Spot was cut from Purple Rain, as was "Wednesday".

btw, the Vanity 6 version of "Sex Shooter" is well worth tracking down. Completely obliterates the A6 one.

nod I like both versions but the Vanity 6 version is funkier and sounds more authentic.Vanity was always more convincing playing the "nasty girl" role.Apollonia sounds like she's just going through the motions, trying hard to fill someone else's shoes.

Plus,I like the way the Vanity 6 version ends....

Susan? (uh huh)
I want you to count to eight (eight)
As soon as I get undressed, clap your hands, okay? (okay)

Brenda? (uh huh?)
I want you to count to eight (eight)
As soon as I get undressed, you clap your hands, okay? (okay)

lol

By comparison, the Apollonia 6 version has a really embarassing ending...

"Everybody sing it.....I can't hear yoooouuuuu!" disbelief

I know what you mean lol At the end of Vanity 6's "Sex Shooter",we hear the beginning of "G-Spot",then it abruptly cuts off mad

I'm thinking that,at an early stage, this might have been the first side of a second Vanity 6 album:

"Sex Shooter"
"Vibrator"
"G-Spot"

hmmm
