prince's hardest to play guitar solos

the reason why i put this subject is because of
silly and out of their mind comments by some orgers
like"prince is not so good lead guitar player he dont have tehniq. eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek

beside stupid threads like prince needs to work with timberland and stuff like that this is the most apsurd thing i read on org. razz

before i go further i should say this
beside being a multi instrumentalist prince is a producer
also.so he puts in his songs what he feels is the best solution for the song.

if there is a space for shreading he will shread but if he thinks a few notes solo is the right thing for the song he will go for that.

prince's tehniq on guitar is great. biggrin biggrin biggrin
beside employing conventional tehnics he also uses bass tehnic on guitar(example the ride solo from aladdin dvd) cool

he often plays lead and rhythm guitar at
the same time(tehnic most famous by jimi hendrix using it.

what makes prince's guitar tehniq great is perfect
timing and sense for rhythm.
most of his lead guitar playing is very precise and on point.

he is not neoclassical heavy metal shredder and he
dont use stuff like classic influanced arpeggios or tapping tehnic but lot of other great players dont use it also.

the only time prince was lacking with hisguitar tehniq is rave 2000 dvd ,
cafe de paris.it's usualy associated with that time period 1999-2000.
so this is a few examples of not so easy to pick up be ear solos by prince(you can add your examples also):

in no particicular order;

interactive-did you hear what he plays when he says one more?

we gonna make it funky-
give it up for the guitar player said maceo.prince absolutly kills with his rhythm lead guitar combination on this.

i would like to hear orgers who put down prince as lead player how would they plat this.

when doves cry-ok solo is not hard until the very end ,

but the ending part when prince plays fast triola notes by bending
the first not and picking the third and second note
is not easy to play at all because of the perfect rhythm figure he plays.

its pitty he never played it live ,
because wendy always fucked it up,and her ending of when doves cry solo with triola notes is patetic and ridiculosly simplified.(prince was probably pissed because of the fact she couldnt play it.)

creamy instrumental get some solo-great combinatiuon of jazz and blues guitar-i would like to hear orgers who underrate prince as lead player how they would play it.

my summertime thing outtake -
funk and jazz guitar all the way...
there are many other examples of prince's impressive and blistering lead guitar playing those are just a few
so put your list of hard to play prince's solos.

p.s. prince even when he was a kid was mentioned
in mineapolis circles of great guitar player and
he was one of the rare guitar player who could play guitar solo from extended version of chicago song(make me smile).
he knew how to play it note by note.

I am not an expert on guitar but one of the highlights at every concert i went to at O2 and Indigo (7) was Prince's guitar playing and especially solos - just brilliant and just took his songs to a different level - i am sure this is why these concerts were so special
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

Sorry, I was just joking. But on topic, I disagree with your first post. I do love Prince's guitar playing, and it always amazes me, but I am not a guitar player. I loved the guitarist post you were referring to, because I found it interesting to learn and hear their point of view. I wish there were more threads like that; I think they're fascinating. And I don't think anyone was insulting Prince, just offering an honest assessment of his skills.

THERE ARE MANY OF THIS KIND OF THREADS ,MANY TIME I CREATED IT.BUT IT GETS TIRED AFTER A WHILE,SAME STORIES GO AROUND.BUT I THINK THIS ASPECT OF HIS PLAYING IS NOT WELL DICUSSED.
MANY PEOPLE TRY TO JUDGE HIS PLAYING BEFORE EVEN KNOW HOW TO PLAY WHAT HE PLAYS ON GUITAR

There is a dueling guitar solo in Computer Blue which I still haven't gotten to figuring out yet, finger wise.

It is not the climactic solo, but the basically chromatic one. That one would not be easy for many players.

The guitar solo he plays on Lovesexy Live 2 - Blues in C (If I Had a Harem).

Not only is it a great, George Bensonesque solo, but if you watch closely towards the end, he does an amazing thing with his pick, that even great guitar players I know look at and go "Wow".

He's strumming 1st and 6th string with thumb and finger, with the pick wedged in between 3rd and 4th finger. To get the pick in the right position to return to single-note soloing, he rolls the pick up in between his fingers, whilst still playing, to get back between thumb and index finger. Cute and GREAT TECHNIQUE!

C'mon... I do that every week.

j/k

lol

I think the JIR solos (from Graffiti Bridge and It Ain't Over) are great for showcasing his subtlety as a soloist.

For me, it's the '86-96 lead tone, the timing and phrasing, the ghost notes, killer vibrato and weird picking that gets notes from inconsecutive strings (double stops -- popular also with Stevie Ray Vaughan).

Prince has a knack for doing really complex stuff as a soloist.

was it some killer soloing on dance electric live version the reason u meantion 1986?

point about this thread is not the say prince is the best in the world but to point on hardest princes guitar solos to reproduce

Joy in Repetition, from the soundtrack (more nuanced) and from "It Ain't Over" (more double-stops).
