The Light spectrum travels endlessly beyond the low frequency of Infrared, and endlessly exists beyond the high frequency of Ultraviolet....Music will always have a thread of similarity...however, Musical Scales do that as well....In Eternity....Prince has room to grow, and will eventually please everyone.

I absolutely HATE this post.

try to regard it as a kind of verbal gamma ray burst neutral

I tend to think that some of his new material (the songs that people think might be from the vault) are simply Prince trying to use the sound that attracted people to his music in the first place. In my personal opinion, this makes some of his new material sound unoriginal, though - the thing that attracted me to his music in the first place was how he constantly changed and evolved, rather than a specific sound I'd like him to repeat over and over. That for me is why albums like TRC, ONA and NEWS were more exciting than albums like Musicology and 3121.

I don't know about the NEW material. But I remember listening to the oringal 1986 recording of "Joy In Repetition" and it sounds just like the version he put on the Graffiti Bridge album. I mean he didn't really change anything to it..

Yes he did - he remixed it and ruined it by pushing the guitar solo back into the mix.

Teah... I'm pretty sure he dips into the 'Vault' here and there. But hey... so what. Aren't we always begging for him to release some of that muzik any way? Any new song I here... wether I like it or not just addds to the legacy... so bring it on.

Prince has been doing this form the ge tgo, so why not now; he's got a vault full of goodies, why not nibble on them every now and then?

Hey Herman. hug

Makes sense. nod It's almost like Prince's musical pantry. lol "Hmmm, I've got *this* drum track I did back in '86 and - oh wait - *that* horn solo from the MC Flash sessions. Mix 'em up - voila".

I'm sure he does go back and explore the old tracks/sketches/experiments sometimes but - I dunno - I hope the new albums are not just hastily put together compilations of old tracks. That *would* be Prince on autopilot.

And Dan's reference to 'pager'. falloff You can tell he's au fait with technology; to me, that's at the cutting edge. lol

I'd hardly say he ruined it and he hasn't really done that much with it either - but that's because its a great song, period. So, no need to rework it that much.

An artist as prolific as Prince (and even some that are not) will mainly work on a track that feels right for them at the time, unless you are specifically conjuring a "concept" album. So, you might record a song and its good, but doesn't fit on the album you are producing. So, you leave it and then there may come a day years later when it does fit in a tracklisting.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that - its still his work. Its impossible to say how much he does this, but it doesn't really matter. As a guesstimate, I'd say 70/80% of his material is new, the rest is drawn from the Vault, in whole or in part.
