Relevance of Prince in clubs? Hi,
this goes out mainly to the US and UK orgers - do you ever hear new Prince music in clubs (outside any 80s nights)? Just as an example, has Chelsea Rodgers or maybe before HotSweat ever made it to the turntables in your favorite joint? If you hear it, in what kind of context (e.g. typical funk club; or housed up remix version for a deep house session). I do hope for Prince that this is not an empty thread...

i never hear any prince in any clubs (only 5 in total iv been to ) and it annoy me. there is more funk and dance grooves in his tunes than 2 thirds of the crap they play in the clubs.
if any of the tracks from emancipation disc 3 came on..id bust the place down with some killer moves Wouldn't you love to love me?

^ i really wish it would stop doing this.
ANYWAY what i TRIED to say in the above post was that ive heard a bunch of songs (black sweat, gett off, etc) at soul/funk nights, and a smaller bunch of songs (kiss, 1999, etc) at indie/electro nights one time i was in a club and they played a truly terrible house remix of kiss. i was so enraged i threw a glass at the dj. not really [Edited 10/29/07 6:09am]

Well my post was meant to say I once heard Pete Tong (a club dj in the uk) play a white label remix of controversy in a club. Pretty cool but thats all Ive ever heard except the odd Raspberet Beret in a club I used to go to every now and again Oh Princey if your free for a couple of hours...If you aint busy for the next 7 years...Lets Pretend were married, and go all night..

I've heard Cream and Kiss played at two different clubs.
Also heard Insence and Candles in my local Boots and 3121 in a clothes shop in Paris !

There was a remix of Erotic City a few years ago that was quite good - and that Anaya Day cover of Nasty Girl gets played out quite a bit. The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince

I dont dig club life but whenever I do find myself in one..They always seem to play KISS if its a place on the 80's vibe..

Like anyone else, Prince is only relevant in clubs if clubs are trump and he has a lot of them. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

"Kiss" works best. "Chelsea Rodgers" has been working well too. Yeah "Kiss" is going to be the most played because DJ's mix it with the typical James Brown trax because its easy and everyone moves to it thou you have heard it done 1000 times over ...it's the funky beat! from 16-60 never fails Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

Well, because of his influence on the club-oriented genres of today, I'd say he's very relevant. I don't get out as much as I used to, but on any given night at any given club, you'll hear a "Gett Off," "P Control" or "Erotic City" in addition to the old standbys "Kiss" and "Let's Go Crazy." Heck, I was in Chicago at a bar/club one night years ago and the DJ busted out with "Crystal Ball." Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I don't go clubbing that often but I did hear Black Sweat one time when it was first out and it brought the house down.

Prince is played alot in the clubs, but you only hear these songs (depending on the club): Raspberry Berret, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, or Kiss.

I went out Saturday night and the dj played "Erotic City"
At the same club they've played "P Control" and "Kiss" "Kiss" actually gets the worst response. "It's old" etc... I'm firmly planted in denial

I was going to say the same thing. Unless it's a House music DJ that I want to hear like Frankie Knuckles or Demetri or old school Salsa night, I stay out of the clubs. I just can't hang with songs like "Take It Back Hoe/Run It Back Bitch" and the like that seem to get played at clubs now. So, I would not expect Prince to be mixed in with that garbage. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

i wasn't aware that Prince's music was popular w/ the club scene. then again, i've never been in one. but its nice to know his songs are getting played somewhere in addition to our houses and in our cars. "So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..."
