..how can it be great if you know nothing about it?.... It's great compared 2 threadz about Prince's teeth and eyebrowz.  This author creates some of the best threadz here,imo.I may not have the answer,but I know a constructive thread when I c 1. | |

DAMN WHERE CAN I BEGIN..?
Jimi Hendrix..all I will say is..Prince´s signature song is: PURPLE RAIN Jimi´s signature song is: PURPLE HAZE Hmmmmm...Lets see if we can see any other similarities .... oh yeah..Jimi´s trademark Guitar is a white stratocaster..Maybe some of you remember the color of the "special dream guitar" that Appolonia purchased for Prince...? 
Add to that the guitar poses..ripped off moves..and Hendrix faces Prince makes while these days "Playing a Stratocaster" and Id say he digs Jimi Hard !
SLY STONE.. Go listen to Sly´s "IF YOU WANT ME TO STAY" If you cant hear The ballad of dorthy parker..or sign o the times..or pop life or strange relationship in the attitude and vocals of that song then your musical imagination aint too developed ! also..the housequake horns are ripped off from sly´s song "YOUR THE ONE" written for his sisters group "Little Sister" Also..The bands stage setup and amps in SOTT, tour and movie are a direct sly and the family stone rip off. plus..The whole multi racial..multi gender funky band Idea was SLY´s he was the first to do it ! 
Add to that Prince teaming up with larry graham (sly and the family stone bassist) and pretty much letting larry and his teachings shape Prince´s whole belief system and Future... Add to that the fact that Prince had a well known reputation growing up as the guy that could do the best sly cover songs in the most convincing sly voice and I think a case could be made for pPrince being a hardcore sly addict.. James Brown...
Everything Funky Prince does... Songs: Prettyman The Work Sexy MF the splits..the throwing the mic stand..suits..hair...it goes on and on !!! Thats enough..i could go on but i´ll let somebody else that knows what time it is continue... | |

Okay, I'm not as knowlegeable as some people on the board, but I'll give it a try:
James Brown: Pretty Man, Willing & Able (except for the Tony M. rap) Carlos Santana: pass--I don't very many Santana songs.... George Clinton: Erotic City, of course! (Can't believe no one has said that one, even Prince himself said it was influenced by Pfunk.) Joni Mitchell: Pass again, I only know 2 Joni songs (even though my name is Joni!  )
