Purple Medley Confusion

So I have some tracks that I acquired somewhere that are labeled purple medley. They include America, Alphabet St. (with some terrible rapping) and Kiss with a cheesy synth baseline.

Anyone know the story with these tracks? They're so unbelievably cheesy and amateurish, I'm thinking there's no way they can be official releases (Google didn't turn anything up). Are they fan remixes?

There is an official release of the "Purple Medley" by Warner Bros. I have a copy, if this is what you're referring to. It's an eleven minute mix of several of his hits.

You can actually hear snippets of it here: http://music.barnesandnob...0323&itm=1 , as it is still up for sale.

There's a total of three separate tracks on the disc.

I don't think that's it. There's no America on it, and the Kiss version I'm talking about is different.

the disc above is the official one, it was played before the gigs on the gold tour (another period where he spat the dummy out)

There used to be loads of mixes kicking around in the 80s. My copies got lost with my tape collection. Most were cheesy, but were fun and done with love. Personally, I'd love to hear more of this sort of thing. Real prince fams making mixes (not compilations). Dropping old skools & associate stuff. Eclectic mixes that lean towards the DJ's tastes. Maybe the sample synth sets at the O2 lean towards Prince himself doing one (can't imagine it). Now if '2 many DJs' are Prince fams, they could create a master piece.

If anyone's at it. P-Funk needs a great mix album and you probably wouldn't get a lawyer contact you.

I have this CD. It was released after the AMA performance in 1995.

I guess you could say they were done with love. But this one reminds me of when I used to try and make remixes on my dual tape deck. Like they just took the little "peace, love, freedom" riff from America and looped little parts of it. The Alphabet St. remix is the worst. They just throw in the "Cat!" line over and over again.

It was cool seeing all of the dancers getting down to the song...Then Prince sat up from the floor and started dancing to "Billy jack Bitch."

From wikipedia...

"Purple Medley" is a song by Prince from 1995. There is no album accompanying the single. The track is basically a mix of many hits and well-known songs from Prince's career. Some of the bits seem to be samples, while others are totally re-recorded for the mix. Some of the additional instrumentation is credited to the New Power Generation. The "Purple Medley" consists of the snippets from the songs: "Batdance", "When Doves Cry", "Kiss", "Erotic City", "Darling Nikki", "1999", "Baby, I'm a Star", "Diamonds and Pearls", "Purple Rain" and Let's Go Crazy" and fades for the edit. The full version continues with "Sexy Dancer", "Let's Work", "Irresistible Bitch" (with the music of "Sexy M.F."), "Alphabet St.", "Thieves in the Temple", the bassline to The Time's "777-9311", Sheila E.'s "A Love Bizarre", "If I Was Your Girlfriend", "Raspberry Beret", "Little Red Corvette", "Cream" and "Peach".

It was like...WB was pumping the single while The Artist was pumping the Gold Experience. The single say's "Prince" and Prince didn't come out until "Billy jack bitch." This was during the whole WB not releasing the GOLD album and P writing slave on his face.
