i think Planet Earth is an Awesome Album. So, i have a question and i ask it respectfully. What would u have done differently BINNED ALL THE SONGS AND RE-WROTE THE RECORDS COMPLETELY and i direct this question to those of u who say its decent or criticize it unfairly I BELEIVE ALL CRITICISM OF THIS RECORD IS FAIR, in my opinion. i think its a collection of Brilliant and Awesome Musical Compostitons MORE LIKE BELOW AVERAGE, MEDIOCRE, with lyrics that evoke intelligent thought ARE YOU 12 YEARS OLD??. It' could not have been played in a different chord or time. It's Awesome the way it is. And the Lyrics tell us something. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? i am always Listening to Prince because he is intelligent and composes intelligent music and always has something important to say. I AGREE WITH YOU, THATS WHY THIS RECORD IS SO DISAPPOINTING i wouldn't change a thing!

Alltough i consider "Planet Earth" as a decent Prince album (not great, not bad either) i more and more get the idea he did just released it just to let the people know he is still 'alive', and still making music.

As if he needed to release the album to keep some 'continuity' in his career AND to promote the concerts in London. And to make some money from his deal with the newspaper and the concerts of course

The strange thing is in the past i mostly had the feeling Prince did wanted to score commercially with an album (Prince, Purple Rain, Diamonds and Pearls) or explore his artistic horizons (ATWIAD, Parade, Lovesexy) or both (Symbol).

But with this album it almost seems like he feels fine with the modest sales. He is not pushing it like some creative effort to be proud of, or something.
He also doesnt seem to force himself to make it a megaseller.

Its all a bit lacklustre.

Well videos are filmed, but aren't they always.

Prince clearly doesn't have any interest in playing the game the same way, say, Madonna does - where the promo is like a military operation - this chat show, that TV performance, those award shows, this single, that video, that single, this video, live show, TV broadcast of live show, live DVD, etc, etc, etc.

Prince just isn't playing by the same rules. We can see it as a wasted opportunity (we don't get those videos, TV performances, remixes, etc) -- But honestly, I kind of don't really mind -- Seems like Prince has always done things on his terms and rarely made the best of what he's had to offer in terms of promotion and marketing, right back to the 80s where albums weren't pushed with the right singles, or given room to fully achieve their commercial potential - It's Prince's way.

Yes, and it deserved to die! It's not that it's a bad album, but you can't sell CDs on a seemingly unsuccesful product tie in alone. Prince, it's all about Apple! How about I-phone instead of Verizon!

What is this UK shit? Is that his new home? Seems like the only time he plays in the US, it's in LA for pampered celebrities.

Prince seems to be more interested in playing in safe places (including the UK) than going to the people that supported him. You would think he would tour for every album...I don't know. Eva Lonogoria awaits....

You are making it seem like it was a celebrity event and it was not. Maybe the 3121 LA show, all three of them were but not 3121 Vegas based on my experience.

I do realize the resident concert setup is not going to please everyone.

I just mentioned it elsewhere, but someone just told me last night that they love the new Prince song. They heard The 1 U Wanna C on the radio. That's the first time that's happened since I can't remember when.

First of all, what he does with his own time is none of our business since he is a grown man and can do what he wants, its really not your call to say, he doesn't spend enough time with his fans therefore he can't spend it with no one else. That just seems silly. Secondly I think this should be an argument about traditional touring vs. resident touring. Touring in itself can be brutal and I'm sure there are advantages and disadvantages from the artist perspective and the fans perspective.

Sometimes I forget that it even came out...and I own a copy!
