Gett Off Damn near 10 minutes I've been listening to Gett Off the album cut and started to look around for all the mixes and have heard all of them except the Damn near 10 minutes cut. Can anyone tell me if the differences are significant?

This mix of Gett Off, as far as I know, is just the uncut version of the album track.
But I think its brilliant had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

The "Damn Near 10 Min" version was on the original one-sided promo 12" of Gett Off issued for Prince's Birthday by the man himself. The track is the FULL original version before it was remixed and edited by Keith Cohen (?) for the single and LP versions.
I think it is much better and has a looser feel with the guitar much higher in the mix. Worth seeking out! -----------------------------------------------

is this similar to the mix that is on the UK version of the CD maxi single? i think it's called the "purple pump mix" or something like that? it's not on the US CD maxi-single, and it sounds far more like an extended version than a remix.

Gett Off Damn near 10 minutes is now the version I listen to the most! I love it. It sounds more like an extended version than a remix IMO, and I feel the guitar is much stronger. I would try to get it if you don't already and are a fan of the song. Sounds like a real man to me...mind if I turn on the radio?

It's the original version, and it feels much more raw than the single and album versions (even the extended version on the maxi-single), which have been through extra rounds of production and mixing.

The original "Damn Near 10 minutes" is a bit more demoey sounding than the
finished mix (which incidentally was originally just going to be a remix, rather than THE mix). The backbeat on the "Damn Near 10 minutes" version is a lot sparser sounding, and the overall sound is rawer and less finished sounding too. Also, I think Levi might sing the "23 positions in a one night stand" bits, rather than Tony M on this version (either that or Tony M. re-did them for the album version, as they're definitely different sounding takes). Personally, I prefer the "Extended Remix / Purple Pump Mix", which is basically the full length final mix that the single/album versions were edited down from. The original "damn near 10 minutes" mix is still interesting to hear though. . [Edited 10/24/07 12:49pm]

"Damn near 10 minutes" is my favorite version of the song. In the remix, Prince added an extra clank to the drum machine beat that was unnecessary. I've got that version. They played a shortened version of it to demo the song, on radio in the South, in 1991. People in radio broadcasting used to really love Prince.
