SST / Brand New Orleans - Underrated Gems/Jams

SST and Brand New Orleans were two underrated new era Prince songs that have kind of slipped under the radar. I thought they were expertly crafted slices of pop brilliance. I especially like the one man jam feel of Brand New Orleans. The jazz guitar and funky keyboards are especially spicy. I love how he inverts New Orleans soul and Boogie Woogie playing into his own thing. Sorta of like how he brilliantly appropriated his version of gospel into U Make My Sun Shine.

Two effortless and heartfelt jams! Does anyone else love em and who knows the story behind the recording? Has he played either one live?

SST is great, the kind of creative pop confection that he should be doing more of. Love that song.

Still gotta work on hearing Brand New Orleans...
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

I actually bought this cd/single. It's still in my car, wrapped and all. I'll have to bust it out on my way to work sometime. I've heard good things.

When you add up all Prince's side projects, remixes, b-sides, single one-offs and bootlegs he has a deeper outside catalog than most superstar artists have in their formal releases. I'm waiting for the box set!

SST isn't bad. It sounds exactly like what it is: a harmless song quickly thrown together in the midst of a tragic event.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."
