Even when they played vids they never played Prince ... The lst good rotation was in '92 (the D&P era).
He said in an interview one time "If I don't play at their award show I can't get a video played on there...." I know Mayte and her mother was at MTV HQ's in NY in '96 discussing the his video rotation and other promo stuff. They did carry his Emancipatipn concert...it was pretty boring but it was on TV which was cool. Today ... they don't show any vids????? All the reality crap...get the moon man and some videos back on the air. What the heck was that award show about??? CRAP Prime aka The Kid

My thoughts exactly. I remember when MTV first came out, it was like a dream come true. The whole point was that at any given time you could tune in and there would be music videos playing. I can't remember the last time I even saw a music video being played on MTV.

Hey I was thinking the exact same thing and VH1 is the same too never any Prince videos on there, not even when they have a best of the 80's or 90's weekend. It sucks, even Micheal Jackosn vids get played soemtime but never Prince, even though hes one of the greatest songwriters of our generation! Oh Princey if your free for a couple of hours...If you aint busy for the next 7 years...Lets Pretend were married, and go all night..

Prince got on their nerves with that "Sexy MF" false alarm on the Emancipation special (he was 4bidden 2 play the song & he played the start of it b4 switching 2 another track).
I don't know if that's from b4 or after this, possibly it was about an unplugged, but i remember that in a 1990's interview, when asked about the possibility of doing something on MTV, he answered "MTV hates me"

I haven't had MTV for quite a while now, but MTV Europe used to play Dolphin and Gold ALL the time. You couldn't escape those videos if you ever flicked through the music channels regularly. Then MTV in the UK decided to have their own network and separate from the rest of Europe and it became utter shite overnight.

I think mtv has had some great Prince vids in the past.

MTV hasn't been bad with Prince in the last 3 years. Musicology and Black Sweat got heavy rotation on the station, when they bothered to play videos. It would have been nice if Call My Name, Cinnamon Girl, Te Amo Corazon and Fury got played there but we take what we can get right? Oh, and we can't forget about The Art of Musicology, the special that was played on MTV, VH1 and BET at the same time in 2004 when P was on tour. That was great and I hope Prince does something even bigger than that with the next CD. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Blame Viacom and their programming people. I would say the same for VH1 and BET too...which is also own by Viacom (the CBS Network). The one and only Technagirl

MTV is anti-talent too so be glad they don't play Prince on there. MTV is only interested in replaying "The Hills" and other stupid shows hundreds of times a week instead of playing music videos. They need to change their name from MTV to reality TV because they are no longer a music video channel. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

MTV is anti-music. They don't play any music on there, just bullshit. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

VH-1 use to bump Prince in mid 90's (Emancipation era) but they switch to shows and skipped vids as well. They also did a lot of Prince specials for the Gold album and other stuff... You can find him on VH-1 Soul but I just lost the channel because I switched to direct TV.

I never heard this b4??? All the crap that happens on Mtv and they invite people back...why would they trip on that? I know he has a funky releationship with them because he doesn't ki$$ their behind lie other artist...I know in one of the NY Musicology concerts he said something like "see this is real singing Judy." I heard he was referreing to a big shot at Mtv. MTV did cover the Musicology concert at some hall but maybe Prince puchased the spot on all the channels..... who knows Prime aka The Kid

VH1 was very supportive of Prince in the mid 1990s. They had the two back to back specials. The first was where a Madonna video was playing and, all of a sudden, the screen goes blank and a Prince video comes on. The next scene shows the VH1 staff running to the control panels in panic wondering what was going on. Prince had taken over VH1. The special that directly followed it was "Love 4 One Another" where a girl goes to Minneapolis searching for Prince. Those two shows were great and featured some videos that were never played again. For a few years, they used to pump up Prince's birthday by playing everything by Prince that they could find such as his videos, his appearances on "American Bandstand" and "Solid Gold", the two VH1 Prince specials, and the movie "Purple Rain". That's back when VH1 had it going on and MTV and BET had already gone to hell in a handbasket. Unfortunately, VH1 eventually joined them. Andy is a four letter word.

That was the special he introduced Mayte has his "Soulmate." He was going out with Nona Gaye and Victoria Webb (Rumor-she denied it on Howard Stern a few years back) at the time and Prince on the phone with the girl and she asked "who is your soulmate?" and Price answered "She will be in front and she will be wearing GOLD...she is my soulmate." Everyone thought it was going to be Nona or Veronica because they were both there but it ended up being Mayte dancing in the GOLD video. Prime aka The Kid

MTV, VH1, BET and the rest are so fascinated with reality shows and infomercials that they are not true the music anymore. When VH1 introduced Pop-up Videos and Behind the Music, it was more interesting than the sh*t they have on there now. Reality TV is sooooo passe and sooooo DUMB!! I really don't give a flip if New York or Bret or Flav or the immature folx on RW slept with whom and fights with whomever. Where's the music?? Where's the groove? Where's the funk? Where's the rock?? This is a reason why we need Youtube (and other internet channels) to see what we are missing...especially Prince videos. NOTE TO PRINCE...ARE YA' LISTENING????? In the early 90's Mtv Europe had a Greatest Hits show, the beginning of the show included Prince's Cream. They also did several Prince weekends at that time. So I don't think they hate(d) Prince...they just don't play any music anymore. [Edited 10/6/07 22:29pm] Love4oneanother
