“Lion”


When trying to read into Prince, I believe he does a wonderful job of leading us off track.

Prince talks on the edge of singing in the opening of, “The Lion of Judah.”

“Sitting on the floor of an all white room, feeling like the color blue.” I would suggest that his following lyrics would include, whether or not that means, “Indian style?” or with one knee raised as he supports a wall. And the color blue, lacks the specificity of shade. Is this China Blue? Or Grayskyblue?

Prince goes on to philosophically detour us with, “A million mistakes and then some…”

Later in the song he forces us to question whether or not he considers his trueblue fans, enemies or not.

In my opinion, Prince does a wonderful job on the Lyrical content in general, However the lyrics fail to
Solve it’s own problems. T

I'm part 'Indian' so what does sitting Indian style mean exactly?

What I have learned from posting some topics, is that they often seem to be under attack. There is so much repetition here that I try to add a different aspect to things.
When a certain subject, of ones' choosing is on the table for discussion, it becomes an open forum for those that wish to contribute. Your choice is to contribute or not to contribute.
If my posts are something that are misunderstood, than all it means to me, is that the reader has little ablility in a light hearted appreciation for Prince,

Indian Style, is just what people I knew called sitting on the floor with your legs folded. A strange term I realize. A meditative pose, I should have clarified.

I was more interested in the Judah/Tamar line of thought. I had no idea that Tamar was a biblical figure until I saw an image at an art gallery last week. There are some interesting ideas in her story:

I wonder if Tamar is/was her real name or a given name?

Ack, tell me more! I can't believe I'm letting Prince have his way and learning about the Bible because of his music!

I see that there are 3 references to Tamar in the bible.

1) Tamar and Shelah-parents of Pharez and Zarah
2) Daughter of David, sister of Absalom
3) Daugher of Absalom, wife of Uriel, Mother of Maachah, queen of Abijah.

The last reference I find is of a town..Tamar-A frontier place in south Judah.

This Tamar who got with Judah was actually an ancestress of Jesus... the two of them together.
