I can understand them whipping stuff that you can buy on DVD, because there is a (weak but logical) argument that says it could stop people going out and buying the DVDs. But stuff from old TV shows which will otherwise never see the light of day don't pose any threat to his bank balance.

In fact, some of the links I've sent to folk in the past probably made them MORE likely to go out and buy official DVDs. So you could argue he's making a complete arse of it.

It is the internet and all the videos available that really got me in to Prince. If I had not found a place where they had most of his music videos then I would never have caught that fire of passion for the man. Watching the videos I had seen as a little kid, seeing all these other ones that were new to me and hearing all those wonderful songs I hadn't heard before was what made me decide that Prince is a genius and I need to explore the purple kingdom. That's how I became a fan and that's surely how many others become interested. It's obviously more difficult to get to know P that way now and I don't know what effect it has. However there are still plenty of things and places easy to stuble upon that can get you hooked. And there will always be material floating around... Not even Prince can stop it. And what harm do photos and videos when they are official ones? Why put so much effort in getting it off the net? Well, there are many sides to the story...

Would be interesting if he could be frank and just give an explicit interview to make us understand his thinking. But then it wouldn't be Prince

There are still plenty of videos on there you just have to know what to look under and it's not his name!
