Count the days

I recently atarted a thread on Exodus, but I'd rather be more specific, and ask what you thinbk about thew song COunt the Days. lyrically. I thought it seemed frightening, and I wa wondering if other people got this impression. or do you think it is just prince/NPG letting off some steam, you know...like in Bob George. usually Prince writes songs about peace and what not so this came as a schock to me. do ya'll think it is just hinm venting a little or what?

Isn't she precious! I think the song was just such a departure from the party astmosphere it seemd like they were trying to create. I guess he was just grouchy.

To me, Count the Days, was an attempt to put harsh content into a soothing song.

I know, the first time I heard it was on the Girl 6 soundtrack, and I hear "Here's a church, here's a steeple", and I'm thinking, this is kinda nice, and then "here's a motherfucker, that I gotta blow away", and all of a sudden I went, oh, so that's what it is about. Same with Cherry Cherry, where you sort of think that it sounds like a love song, untill you realize it's about suicide.

I do like Count the Days, but I never thought he sounded angry. Sad, distraught, maybe, but not angry.

I thought that Sonny T was singing the song, and Cherry Cherry was sonny T as well? could be wrong, In the Video, its about sonny T. Prince doesn't even appear in it. Just the NPG>

Count the Days might be Sonny as lead vox, but Cherry Cherry I'm pretty sure is Prince.

Most of the tracks on Exodus have Sonny & Prince
(Tora Tora) singing the lead together, usually
with sonny's vocals just that bit higher in the mix.

Exodus is the second album by The NPG.
It included the songs;
Get Wild
New Power Soul
Count The Days
The Good Life
Cherry, Cherry
Return Of The Bump Squad
Big Fun
Hallucination Rain
The Exodus Has Begun
plus numerous comic interludes.
It was released in 1995, while
Prince was going through his
'prince, Slave' period.

Lead vox is Sonny on CTD and you're right about Cherry Cherry.

I used to think that too, but I'm pretty sure that Prince
does NOT sing "Cherry Cherry". He's in that vocal mix but
his voice isn't the one up front. That's Sonny. If you
listen to it with headphones you can hear it. Especially
at the end of a certain line or exclamation.

Like "another victim of a suicide...", that's 100%
Sonny T. right there.

The thing that throws you off when listening to Exodus is
the fact that Prince is featured on every track but just
on backing vox.

Yet, at various moments in the songs his voice is turned
up and pushed to the front for just a few bars and that's
what keeps throwing you off, going "no, wait, that IS...".

I'm not even sure wether "The Exodus Has Begun" is Prince
and not Sonny T.

I'd say that Cherry Cherry is DEFINATELY Prince!!
Sonny does an OK job on most of the songs-but thats def P on Cherry.

It's Sonny T on 'Cherry, Cherry' Prince has a superior falsetto.

However, Prince is on backing vox all over 'Exodus'. Sometimes even co-lead.

i've always thought that song was brilliant because musically it is very "pretty", yet lyrically, it is very angry and it's discussion of racism and violence so starkly contrasts the musical vibe. it reminds me of tupac's to live and die in la.

Definitely Sonny T on CherryCherry!Sometimes they've really got the same way of singing a song. Maybe Prince -ToraTora;)- asked him to sing it that way. And on most of the songs P mixes his voice to Sonny's voice. That's how he dealt with the 'mysterious' character of ToraTora the ghost of a voice sometimes.

Count the Days is Sonny and Prince on CO-LEAD vox.
Prince sings falsetto through the whole song. (Except the Frankie Beverly without Maze bit... It's a cool video, gotta love Prince as Tora Tora in the red mask.
