Your Favourite, Personal Moments Of Prince Fandom

Mine, in no particular order;

- Buying a promo of Diamonds & Pearls the week before its official release and enjoying the feeling of listening to what I thought was a great album at the time and also being part of an elite group of people who'd heard it before the masses.

- Going into the NPG Store in London for the first time.

- Standing up, dancing and generally not giving a shit what others thought during the 14th August 2007 O2 show. I was in my own little private Prince-fan blissworld and it was easily the finest two hours of my life. I felt like I was actually in Uptown: I was grooving without worrying what others thought whilst not offending anybody else (at least not intentionally) and I was loving watching others enjoy themselves in their own way. I felt like every single person in that arena was one big entity.

- Listening to Planet Earth on the Sunday morning of July 15th and just revelling in the sheer audacity of its freebie release.

- Sneaking into my brother's bedroom back in 1985 to play 'Condition Of The Heart' on his ATWIAD LP when he wasn't about. I'd heard him play the album and that song just hit me as one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard (he hated it). It was that experience that triggered off my Prince fandom.

- Finally appreciating NEWS.

- That day in 2004 when Musicology, as well as lots of other music was released in the Musicology store at NPGMC. Yum!

- Buying Emancipation. Yeah some people don't like it, but buying a brand new album by your favourite artist that consists of 36 new songs over 3 hours, is a pretty amazing thing to spend the next few days discovering and is something fans of other artists can only dream about. And despite its faults, I still think that it's an album worth appreciating.

- Crying when I first started listening to and appreciating 'Last December'. After all the co-production and programming, etc. etc. of the 90s, listening to the organic sounding cornucopia of differing sounds that make up the song, I was just in awe... As much as I love the 90s stuff for being what they are, it was such a joy to hear a natural sounding Prince album once again, and that song in particular envelopes so many different styles. With TRC and 'Last December', Prince proved himself, yet again, to be worthy of all the respect that he garners from those who know.

So, what are your favourite, personal Prince fan moments?

The first time I ever heard him.

The first time I saw what he looked like.

The first time I saw Purple Rain.

The day he called Detroit Legendary DJ Mojo on the phone for the famous impromptu interview and he dubbed us Detroit fans his little Motorbabies.

The first time I saw Under The Cherry Moon.

The first time I slept out on the cold ass concrete to get tickets to my first live Prince concert.

The moment I finally got in *** ***** *** wink

Forgot to add the Super Bowl performance...seeing him perform Purple Rain in Purple looking Rain was totally freaking awesome and I'm glad it happened and I got to enjoy it before he started pissing me off.

My favorite experience was at the Roxy for an aftershow during the Emancipation tour...I stood next to the stage, he only sang three songs, but he was in a good mood because he smiled and was joking around during the set, he reached down and shook my hand and several others, and for the first time I saw him as a regular person just like me....having a great time.

Opening my package from the NPG store...I purchased several items, music, oils, and that purple tamborine that I enjoyed playing at my bellydance classes. I got the Goldnigga cd, and the Black album with that package and loved the fact that none of my other friends that were "Prince-heads" had these to listen to.

Getting a call from my sister (who went with me to the Lovesexy tour, and said that he sucked), after his superbowl performance raving about Prince and saying that that was the best performance ever by anyone because she actually cried.

Dancing to the song Head when I was 10 at a Catholic summer camp and getting compliments from father Francis and two nuns afterward.

~ My First Time seeing him live, it was the opening show at the 02, I dragged my sisters and mum stright in as soon as those doors opened, the show didn't start about 2hours later.... then standing up with my sister in my arms singing along to "purple rain" just amazing, i'll never forget that night

~My First after show party, it was around 1 o'clock, i've been standing in the same spot for around 2hours, and had no way getting home till 6:45am, i knew no one, but made friends with these two lovley ladies who mothered me that night....next thing i know everyone is looking up and screaming, there is prince walking around in a red suit and pretending to throw his hat down to us lol it was so funny!!!
Best after show apart from the 21st wink

~ Buying Musicology, It felt so great buying this album on the day of its release at 9:30am just when the shops open, I musta listened to that album about a million times that day, such bliss

~ The last 02 aftershow party, was with one of the nicest persons ever(which some of u know) and me and him just danced till the early morning together...tho i remember this drunk chick bumping into me, and my friend telling me to push her back, well im not manly enough, so he looked after me and put himself inbetween us lol he also pushed her back but thats a different story!! best nite of my life! definitely the 14th August, first time I had seen Prince - a revelation
followed by the 13th September aftershow - brilliant
and topped off by the final night down at the front of the arena - priceless
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

A male raodie friend of mine traveled to Minneapolis and bought me a long black Glam Slam T-shirt, and I wore it to bed occasionally....In later years, I brought it on vacation with my x-husband, this was several years ago.

Anyway, my x-husband tried to hide the T-shirt in the hotel, so it would be left behind the bathroom door when we left the hotel. He was caught, and I said, "How dare you!" We divorced eventually. I am happier now alone. ha ha

Of course seeing him "Live" for the very first time.

And as a child listenting to "Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad"(Guitar Solo) and "When U Were Mine", over and over again..Also discovering "Adore" and just playing it out when I was a kid.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I it was my first Prince concert and seeing that car come out...
eek MAN... I still have my two shirts from that concert.

I think seeing Purple Rain in the theater...I have never been the same since.

I always remember every few albums he would do something that would just drive me crazy "Did you see that or did you hear that" ... He is off the chain...

~Going to my 1st Prince Concert May 19th 2007 in an exclusive one night performance at the San Francisco Orpheum Theatre. i wasnt prepared for what i saw/ heard. shelia E on the drums, Maceo Parker, shelby J, the twinz and the rest of the NPG and the man himself. and afterwards going outside and having prince walk right by me to get into his limo, having the chance to talk to shelby J about how great the show was, and watching them all drive away. such bliss. i was so overwhelmed with joy that after it was done and over, i just started bawling. it just made me so happy. my dreams had come true.

~Going to the August 1st 2007 opening show at the O2 with my cousin who claimed that prince had no talent and afterwards him turning to me and proclaiming that he was the best musician on the face of the earth..and, "oh did you see him play the guitar!! that was BRILLIANT!!"...haha!and now he's a fan! smile that and the 2 or3 encores that he did...that was a nice surprise.

~watching purple rain, under the cherry moon and grafitti bridge all in one night because they came to me in the mail from amazon all on the same day!

~ getting the emancipation album in the mail last week smile
Peace, Love, and some Purple Rain!!

My most favoritist and personal moment iiiisss...

...when I first went to see Prince in concert. That wasn't enough so I went out and bought, and saw for the first time the "Purple Rain" movie.

Then the Superbowl half-time show. That performance was awesome and unbelievable!

I have so many but no question, it would be the night I listened to Little Red Corvette over and over again. I'd heard it on the radio and recognized it as one of the best tunes i'd ever heard. Couldn't believe when I got my hands on the tape that it gets even better after the 3 minute single limit. I was so zoned in that I would rewind the tape over and over and i'd always stop it right at the very beginning. That night changed my life. And of course he's done alot more since.

There are many special moments but I would say:

-When he spotted me during the 01/09 show and pointed at me in my purple jacket!
-during the aftershow a few hours later when he came in front of the stage leaned forward a little so I could give him the low five (well sort of low five lol).
- When he played "1000 Hugs and Kisses" and "Alphabet Street" and "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" @ the O²...
- The unexpected acoustic encore during the opening night in London.
-The 1997 show he played in Ghent especially when the fans jumped during "Now".
- When he thanked me back in '02 when I screamed "Welcome back to Germany" during the Frankfurt soundcheck.
- Same night in Frankfurt when he played "Beautiful Strange" and the most amazing rendition of "Don't Play Me"....
- My first aftershow when Prince started "3121"...

And many, many others..... biggrin

-Listening to my brother's ATWIAD album, and being totally blown away. That started my obsession with Prince.
-Seeing him live for the first time at Wembley Arena on the Parade tour.
-Buying Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy albums on the first day of their release and playing them to death.
-Seeing the Lovesexy tour and having the band walk past us during intervals (we were on the edge of the aisle) and giving high fives to Cat et al. Seeing the box Prince was in and thinking "shit, I'm only a few feet away from him"!
-Getting my Diamonds & Pearls tour programme signed by the NPG at HMV in Birmingham, including Mayte, god she was gorgeous! love fallinluv
-Seeing Prince again at the O2 this year, and having my love for the guy re-awoken after many years of being dormant.

the first time I watched Purple Rain.

the first time i heard Erotic City.

the first time I watched Under The Cherry Moon.

the first time I saw Prince live on the 4th August.

When Prince spoke to me at the indigo on the 14th August.

getting a gold circle ticket to the 31st august, amazing seat, and jumping up like a mad man when he did the synth set at the end and the beat to "Sign O The Times" kicked in.

When I got "Testament", took me about a week to listen to everything on it and it blew my mind.

When he played "Sometimes It Snows in April" at the 31st August and sang the second verse..... i cried

oh and how can i forget....going to the 3121 London listening party, hearing the album damn near a MONTH before the general release....and writing the WORLDS FIRST REVIEW RIGHT HERE ON THE ORG! and then realizing that Prince would probably read my review lol.....
