If Prince borrowed a line or melody from something that you, as an artist, posted here in the .org discussion forum, would you be:

a) flattered
b) upset
c) a little of both

haha... did you come up with this cuz of my poetry thread?

Well... it depends.

If he took something I wrote and uses it in a wonderful context with a beautiful melody, I'd be very flattered.

BUT... if he said he write every bit of it on his own... I wouldn't be too happy with him... but that would probably last a day or two.

I sent him a not-so-secret admirer letter a few months back with a poem inside that I wrote about him. If he does get that and uses that in a song, very cool.

But given that, maybe I should put all of my Prince poems under some lock & key so I'll have proof later that I was the actual author

I'd contact that fucker and demand my money!

Of course, I'd still get over it pretty quickly. Should just be flattered if he thought anything I wrote was good enough 2 use.

1) Prince stealing? no way. Except for a few covers, he always writes/performs his own work. Plus he understands what it means to be an artist, to put your sweat and blood into something. He certainly doesn't like people using his work for their own reasons (hence the taking down of videos from HQ, YouTube, etc.). He wouldn't want his work to be stolen, so why would he steal someone else's cuz its convenient for him?

2) Prince stealing MY poetry? I don't believe for a second I'm even half as good as he is. What would he want with something I wrote?

In my mind, this scenerio would never come true. I'd be flattered if he did, but any case, I'm still at this.

Now, if he asked to collabrate... me write lyrics and him write music... then that would be something else altogether... if I still get credit in that case, it's cool... but again, totally unrealistic

I'd be flattered that it interested him enough to want to expose it to others that may have not had or may not ever have the opportunity to see it and decide if they like it enough to buy it from me.

I most certainly wouldn't hire an internet hit squad to go around searching the internet for any traces of my other work and issuing threats but hey that's just me.

I'd be thankful, because, Prince has been my source of inspiration, with many poems I have written...When I consider a Love song...that lasts forever, it's usually immortality for two. When Shakespeare wrote about his loved one, His love for her survives with his Sonnets.
