It was a musical/movie that P was doing the songs for at one stage. For one reason or another, it didn't come together. I believe the movie was released but without P's contributions.....most of which ended up on that dire compilation of random stuff "The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale" that WB released in the late 90's.

Yes, someone that also thinks that the Vault is, for lack of better words, CRAP

the abuse i have got over saying that has been nothing short of a beating, so i simply dont mention the Vault anymore wink
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

The movie was released and starred Nick Nolte: http://imdb.com/title/tt0110097/

Boris or Langebleu or someone else probably could give a better answer, but IIRC, the movie was originally slated to be a musical and Prince wrote the music for it. The actors in the movie weren't exactly up to the task of singing (I think Julie Kavner, who also voices Marge Simpson, was especially egregious). Also, the songs Prince did were not that great (Be My Mirror is pretty horrible, for example). So the director redid the movie without the music. The movie didn't do well.

"I'll Do Anything" starring Nick Nolte and Whittni Wright was originally
going to be a musical. Prince wrote most (but not all) of the musical numbers
for it, and the movie was filmed and cut together, music and all. However, it
really didn't do well at the test screenings, so the producers decided to cut
out all the songs and just release it as a regular movie. It still didn't do that
well though.

The Prince songs originally included in the movie were...
Wow
Make Believe
I'll Do Anything
Don't Talk 2 Strangers
My Little Pill
There Is Lonely
I Can't Love U Anymore
Be My Mirror

other songs recorded for the project were...
The Rest Of My Life
Poor Little Bastard
Empty Room

.

So, how many songz are in the movie? I've never seen that movie, and that is one I would most likely choose to see.

I believe a couple Sinead O'Conner tracks were also used....i think they should finally release the director's cut of this film...you have Woody Allen's "Everyone Say's I Love You", Dancer In The Dark and John Turturro's new film Romance & Cigarettes getting raves for non-singers performances...I am sure today's audience would be more accepting of this type of film.

I agree, it would be nice to see it in it's original form.

Plus, I have to say that I think Sinead's song "This Lonely Life" is the
highlight of all the I'll Do Anything tracks (sorry Prince!)

I seem to clearly remember one number left in, when the little girl sings a song to her mom with the portable stereo.

b my mirror is great!!!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
