What's the guitar Prince is playing in the "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" video. People on another guitar forum told me it was a custom schecter....I also noticed the cloud purple cloud bass smile smile
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

I'm not sure, but it's highly unlikely it's a schecter...they celebrated their 30th anniversary last year I think, 'Why you wanna...' is about 1979 right? so it is possible i guess.

i'll have a look at the vid in a bit, from what i remember it was just a moded gibson les paul...i've certainly seen early pictures of prince with a gibson les paul

I've seen this guitar in quite a few stills from this period. This certainly isn't the guitar featured in the video. I was @ Harmony Central about a week ago on a thread about the the mystery guitar. My best guess it that its a custom piece or some really obscure import. Ditch any thought of it being any kind of Schecter. They were mainly a parts company that seemed to specialize in Strat & Tele based copies back then.

That's right, but I don't think they were still making them in 1980.

Actually, my drummer recently gave me one. I was thinking "where have I seen this before?" lol

Santana used to endorse them, which may explain why Prince played one.

What are they like to play? do you rate them? There have been a few times when i've heard them played and i've been really impressed with the tone...i've been thinking about possibly getting one...they have one in denmark street in london, it's a bit pricey though

There are a couple models L6 Special & L6 Deluxe. I have the Special, which is cheaper, I believe.

It's okay, a thinner neck than most gibsons I've tried, which I like quite a bit. It's really light & comfortable compared to most gibsons. I guess it feels a lot like an SG's body type. It's the only guitar I've played that has a full 2 octave neck.

Slightly neck heavy, so the neck drops when you have it strapped on & let go with your left hand. That kind of annoys me.

I like the neck pickup, but I don't like the bridge pickup. Also the bridge has a lower output, so it's quieter, even after adjusting the height. I tend to leave it on the neck setting.

Also, it's made of maple, where most gibsons are mahogany. Supposedly they were going for more of a Fender sound with this one. Maple is much brighter, and mahogany is warmer sounding. So this guitar has sounded a tad piercing at times.

I don't know this guitar's history. It might have been altered. It was definitely painted.

It's cool because it's uncommon. Looks like it came from a garage sale. I like the neck & lightness, but it's definitely not my favorite guitar either for playing (stratocaster) or sound (more traditional gibson style guitars).

But though they're uncommon, you can maybe find them pretty cheap. I've seen them for $400, so look around!
