this versions blows, and not in the good way, in a chunks way. This song is next to impossible to cover and get it in any way right.

The original is and always will be a classic, but I don't know how people can not 'get' the last minute of this version (i.e. the new 'hopeful' bit !). It's what makes it more an interpretation than a cover... and full of soul.

Unbelievable. Chake comes with the funk. Her voice is brassy with her diction until the 3:00 minute mark and she goes off with the Chaka wall of wails. The I'm Every Woman marriage at the end make sthe cover bonefied Chaka. Each is entitled to opinion's but these comments remind of a person that said Toni Morrison did not deserve her credit. Wow.

the album is awesome...blows Planet Earth to sh*t...and I actually love the song...its interesting how divisive this song is amongst the Music: Non-Prince forum which I think is a great thing...she took a risk.

It's her version and she sings it with conviction, so it I suppose yes, it is sung 'soulfully'. The end section she's added certainly lifts the song in a soulful way.

It's her cover and she adds something else interesting to the original song, so it's a worthwhile exercise as far as I'm concerned, not a 'butcher'...
