I've never been scared by any musician. I find it quite odd that people would be. Maybe Alice Cooper leaping from behind a bush would be a little pant-wetting but recorded material?! Come on, you either like Prince's stuff or you don't. I celebrate most of his work (everybody has the odd shit song) and fail to see how it's ever anything but a musician exploring and experimenting with styles, trends and moods. It's just the Black Album ffs not the first coming of the anti-christ. And it's funky as fuck!

Oh the Spice Girls reforming for some sort of cash procurement exercise scares me. But if it puts a smile on peoples faces then that's fine. After all different people are anal about different things. Some people just have a little motor to get them from A-B whilst others collect classic cars. We frequent a Prince forum which means we're all sad nerds.

Just what I was thinking! Mind you, I picked up my boot cd around 1990 and that had Old Friends 4 Sale and In All My Dreams as "bonus" tracks. (Bought the '94 release for better sound quality)

Hehe - good post lol

Though, perhaps you ought to hear Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy" - the nearest you'll get to being scared by a musician, particularly if watched along with the accompanying and brilliant video by the incredible Chris Cunningham. Genuinely disturbing stuff.

For the record, I never found Bob George scary - funky, funny and, perhaps, creepy, but certainly not scary. I think the shock for some people is that it was really the first time we'd heard "Prince" (or whatever alter-ego he sings as) speak of (and "act out") violence. Whilst most songs were about sex, parties or God, this was something genuinely different from Prince.

and drinking animal blood (which is what he said), which is apart of the Occult (and is real) .. that song 'SuperFunkyCaliFragiSexy" .. made me think the rumors were true.. of him dabbling in that..

Indeed - a confusing lyric at the time but, with hindsight and more knowledge, it now appears likely that it is a euphemism for Ecstasy (with Prince, perhaps, alluding it to something as vile as drinking animal blood, given his bad experience). Again, this raises the question as to how often Prince had tried E - as the official account of this story happens after Black was finished and just a week before its release. So, if Superfunki.. is taken in this context, it would suggest that Prince had dabbled more than once.

I just don't get the supposely "dark" side of Prince and him having supposely used the drug ecstacy when he was recording it. I just don't get that.

I didn't either at first. But listen closer to the lyrics in "Superfunkycalifragisexy" and YOU WILL get it lol. Not to even mention that the song is a collaboration that I waited a lifetime to experience: Prince & George Clinton. Now all I need is a Prince & Bootsy Collins collaboration and I can die peacefully (as it's too late for me to hear a Prince & Frank Zappa collaboration, or a George Clinton & Frank Zappa collaboration).

George Clinton had nothing to do with any of the tracks on Black Album...

Nobody's saying he was wasted when recording (though, that could be true, its impossible to know) - but he certainly had an experience on E that led him to pull the album from release....that much is known.

He's on "Superfunkycalifragisexy", #6 on The Black Album. What do you mean by "nothing to do" with any of the tracks on the Black Album?

Gold Experience on vinyl ain't as rare as TRC surely? I have a gold vinyl promo of gold which is a limited edition of 10,000. There's only 1000 copies of TRC all told. I need that record btw TRC is in my top 3 Prince albums!

Yea, TRC is much rarer, they go for 350-500$ or so. TGE is pretty rare too. Worth around 100$, which is pretty much, if you ask me wink

I wanna get a copy of TRC too cool

I wanna know why TRC is sooo rare and so hard to get?

It wasn't out 4 that long!
