DreamyPop's Prince Poetry Let me know what you guys think. Here are a couple I wrote most recently, but I haven't really written anything solid in months. These 2 in particular show the way I view him as a musician and a person. Enjoy
Prince’s free spirit You can’t make him follow your rules He always makes his own He’s a free spirit who always desires A new song to call his home He changes directions like the wind When he feels that it’s right Writing when he feels he has to When his eternal flame is burning bright Though his sky has a limit Unreachable, it seems It’s a feat only accomplished Within his wildest dreams He longs for a world Only his music can reach His goal lies In finding the tune That holds that freedom’s key His heart longs for things Few mortals know exists His music has shown him repeatedly That feeling of ultimate bliss He is an old soul That stays young at heart Impossible as it sounds His journey has only just made its start ----- Prince [the man] in a nutshell He thinks with his heart As well as his head Even Immorality Offers no guarantee That all of his words will be said He stands alone With no rivals in sight All he needs is his guitar To make his songs take flight His deck is stacked With random faces That fill in the cracks And empty spaces His many names & identities Speak in one tongue Live in the many songs He has written and sung The cards he holds Determine his fate He chooses his own Not fearing what lies in wait As long as time will let him He has many lessons yet to teach The sky will be the limit He has the power to reach had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

aww thanks... but im nowhere near as good as Prince. But dare I say he's a wonderful subject One of the best I've ever had for my poetry, if not the best. Here are a couple of more I wrote after listening 2 "The Beautiful Ones" and "Computer Blue" (in their entirity). ‘The Beautiful Ones’ reaction Tearful eyes Piercing lips Trying with all their might To speak out his wish Longing for a connection That refuses to break To offer a guarantee His heart will never ache We both agree We know what we want We reach to touch one another But all we get is static And an empty promise Reaction 2: ‘Computer Blue’ Intoxicating majesty Shivers run down my spine As we journey down that hallway Referring to each by name As he walks that lonely line A strong sensation of incense Dulling the senses Bewitching my mind Taking away my free will That no longer can be mine Mysterious and sad Unusual but familiar He walks a path only he can tread Could his guitar be the tears he refuses to shed? Sending chills down my spine Like nothing I’ve ever seen I wonder what’s on his mind And what does he dream? Spinning out of control Unable to make heads or tails of who loses and who wins What’s up and what is down? Where does one song ends and the next one begin? had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. These two poems as well as the earlier two, have very nice imagery in several places, that is your strongest point as a poet, your weakness is in the beat, prose poem can be off, however, if you intend to write forever, you will figure, that you can reword something to match, the syllabic count from the previous line, that you are rhyming. One of my instructors taught me, that a writer's greatest tool, is time and revision....I threw a lot away. I enjoyed your work. [Edited 10/14/07 16:36pm] "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Here's a poem I wrote a few months ago while basking in the glow of my friendship with a fellow Purpleneck. Her words of encouragement lifted me from the depths of self-doubt and inspired me to write:
Purple Words The letter I wrote u remains unsent. But what is it I’m waiting 4? Perhaps I await destiny’s consent, As I always have b4. Will I ever get 2 say Hello 2 u, face-2-face? Will something still b in the way, A barrier in time and space? I hope one day 2 live my dream, 2 speak with u, and hear a tune: Purple Rain, or maybe Cream, Underneath the cherry moon. And say that I feel truly blessed 2 have ur music in my soul Helping me 2 do my best And 2 realize every goal. U’ve helped me cope with pain and strife, U’ve seen me through the fire. U’ve made an impact on my life, U’ve helped 2 take me higher. It started back in ‘84 And hasn’t wavered since: The great respect which I hold 4 The One and Only Prince. [Edited 10/14/07 18:06pm]

hang on tight, guys.
After I get back from class, I'll post another poem. Well, it's more like a list cuz it doesn't rhyme. But let's just saying at the time, I was wondering if Prince was a name that could accurately describe him. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

The poetry is about Prince, right? haha... so I think its where it belongs. I just came up with this haiku, inspired by the haiku thread inspired by mine. Thru ebony eyes, the yin and yang coincide, within Prince's soul. Given that, I could very well come up with several other poems with the same theme. But I won't post them until I'm sure they're perfect had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

All of the poetry is amazing! It's such and acurate depiction of the man and the musician "The truth is that we don't even know what the world will be like until we shake things up a little bit"

I wrote this one back in mid-March... right around the time I saw "Purple Rain" the first time.
It's not one of my best. But I'll see if I can come up with something better later after I see the movie again. Response to “Purple Rain” Flashback in time To a more simple time When music was music And rhyme was rhyme Music wasn’t art It was only words Nothing extraordinary Was anything I heard Then there was someone else A new figure had appeared Once he got started going My view became clear Music was art Poetry for the ear Poetry for the heart All other views disappeared Passion and fire Resided in his eyes So many different genres Each song housed a new surprise His grip on me tightened No matter how time passed His movie made an impression For all time, it would last A new state of mind A new song to sing A new voice for which My ears would ring Extraordinary Is all I could say One thing was sure No matter how time passed In my heart, he always stayed had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong.
