Surely the music in the Vault is lost forever

Prince used to brag about how he had enough material alrrady recorded to fill 500 albums...but surely we will never ever get to hear any of that now.

If Warner Bros own all of Princes masters (from when he was getting paid by them) and Warner Bros no longer have any right to release new music by Prince.....then nobody is able to release them.

Isnt that right?

but as he kept telling us over and over and over again...he didnt own his masters so couldnt have legally destroyed them.

I reckon he just got Larry Graham to play on them so he knew they wouldnt want to release them anyway wink

I agree 100% smile You'll probably never hear it, Prince is not the same person he used to be and he'll have that stuff destroyed before anybody else can get at it. He doesn't care what his fans want, don't you know that by now? eek

He needs a music archivist to come and categorize, care for whats in the vault. I bet the Smithsonian could help him out.

The other thing to keep in mind is the deterioration that affects tape over time. A lot of stuff would be in bad condition if posthumously released after his demise.

But I suspect a lot of it has been destroyed.

for all we know, the guy has probably been digitally archiving the stuff on the d-l for some time now, just in case.... (wishful thinking)

well he does care just a little bit, judging by his london o2 tour he does care, cause it was a hits tour!!!!, he gave the public what they wanted, when he said hed never play his old stuff again, but he did, not cause he wanted to, but for his fans, mayb hes had a change of heart~?????

Absolute lunacy in this thread!

Warners do not own EVERYTHING Prince ever did, just songs he gave them to release - jeez! Is there really this much lack of understanding with regards to ownership of songs?

Why would Prince destroy his work? His old work is brought out of the vault and used CONSTANTLY throughout his career. A handful of tracks on every new album of late has featured older material from the vault. He might change chords, keys, even lyrics, but it is highly unlikely he is destroying his own stuff. He has just been playing songs which most people (not just religious zealots) would consider risqué, live in concert and, although he didn't sing it, still teased us with the opening to Head. Is that someone who is destroying their life's work because of a change in belief? I don't think so.

And those that continually whinge that Prince "doesn't care about his fans" need to wake up - the truth is that he has produced more than virtually any other pop artist! But, it isn't enough for poor you? Boo-hoo! What you mean is that you are entirely selfish and are only pissed because you don't get everything you want, but try and gloss that over by making it a general malaise amongst fans. Its not true, its just you and its about time you grew up and got over your childish expectations. He owes you NOTHING, yet you expect EVERYTHING - you're bound to be disappointed.

Do people also believe that he doesn't have the basic savvy to make digital copies of his work? Yes, tape deteriorates (though, I'm sure his vault has the requisite protection in place for the media), but we are living in the digital age, are we not?

Purpledove asserts that we won't hear the vault stuff because of a mis-conception that it is owned by Warners. NOT TRUE! Others then assert that his religious beliefs will prevent us hearing the vault material (others think that, like the Nazis, he will actually destroy his life work) - both these assertions are ludicrous. Do you people have anything serious to worry about and, more to the point, do you actually think about anything seriously?

Salt within a vault can preserve anything, and Prince will destory every
ounce of what he can afford to. This is the mind of an artist. Looking
into Prince's past, has not been favorable for him because of judgemental and
influential people. Not one line Prince would sacrifice, would be the same as
the songs he's written that have been sacrificed-never being recorded.

Prince's privacy would not be respected. In my opinion he should part with,
all that he can. And I bet, there'd be 97 percent of it left over.

THANK YOU! You saved me so much trouble! If it wasn't ever released by Warner Bros, then THEY DON'T OWN IT!
