Search for Rick James: A Rare Interview from '88
in youtube. They show this picture.

This interview is proof that drugs really fucked with Rick. He was very mature in this interview while discussing his issues with Prince. He was a smart man, but let the fame overpower his judgement.

Rick James real name was Rick Mathews.
Vanity´s real name is Denise Mathews.
They´re both Canadian.
Were they relatives?

I wonder if the picture of Rick and Prince was taken the day
Vanity and Prince met.
I noticed in the background of the picture there's a woman.
Could she be Vanity?

Wrong. Rick's real name is James Ambrose Johnson Jr. and he was born in Buffalo. He is NOT Canadian. He used the name 'Ricky Matthews' for awhile back when he was AWOL in Canada.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I think I can clear up the confussion about this picture. In Rick's book, he talked about the main reason he didn't like Prince. He said that his mom was in an elevator with Prince and said she liked his music and asked for an autograph...Prince refused. When she told Rick he became enraged, later Prince came up trying to apologize and Rick wanted nothing to do with him, and at that moment a photographer came up and snapped that image. That's why Rick looks so pissed.

And about the collaboration, I just don't think it was meant to be, I don't think Prince was all that interested in collaborating with anyone in his early years. In Ricks book (take it for what its worth) he said when he first met Prince he was sitting in the studio playing a beat or something, then Rick walked in and got on the drums trying to add to it or just vibe with him; but Prince just looked at him crazy, got up and walked away. So if there was ever a time for a collab it would have been early on. But they never really hit it off from the beginning, so what ever will be will be.

Oh, and about Neil Young, I don't know how their relationship was @ the end, but I had read an interview that Rick did B4 he died, and he expressed interest in working with Neil on an album. I don't know how Neil felt about it though.

As we're looking up Rick James on You Tube. Check out the Glow video http://www.youtube.com/wa...VZfm7qXY9A. This is from 1985 and if this isn't a rip off (piss-take) of the Purple Rain Movie I don't know what is.
