prince and radiohead was checking out the non-prince section and was very surprised to see how many prince's fans also liked radiohead.i thought i was the only one.they're very different although a few parallels.they both yell an awful lot and like playing with computers and rock guitars at the same time.they also both like messing with the record industry.p gave his album away for free and they're selling theirs for whatever fans want to pay(i got it for free but i will buy it when it comes out in stores,an awesome record really).if they ever did a record together(very farfetched,i know)i would just die, literally.not quite sure how it would sound though.maybe they could do a cover or something and sing it together,i don't know(i'm rambling, sorry).don't know which album i like more.probably pe.i've only listened to radiohead's once and nothing grabbed me although it was really awesome. For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Radiohead doesn't "mess around with the record industry". They had a contract that they fulfilled, and are trying something new. While they were IN their contract, they delivered excellent product.
In Rainbows is not technically free - it's "pay what you want". It's a novel approach. Some people will pay full price for the download out of loyalty, many preordered the Disc Box with extra CD for roughly $80 US. The cost of the Disc Box probably offsets all the free downloads; they'll probably break even. When Prince decided he wanted out of his contract in the early 90s, he did everything he could. "Slave", name change, and releasing Contractual Obligation albums of weak material. The way he handled himself was childish, unprofessional, and self-defeating. He should've finished out his contract as a professional and then walked away . . .

he only did that once... Uh no, Come, Chaos and Disorder, and The Vault were all described as contract filler. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

A shitty band you don't wanna know They're hard to describe, but basically they're a British rock/techno group. They've been one of the top bands in the world for about the past decade . . . at least in that genre. Most people I know do not like them - mainly because of the lead singer's voice. It's a little different from what most people are used to. I will admit, they're not for everyone . . . for example, I can't stand Bob Dylan but I can still appreciate his genius . . .

As a Prince fan of 20 years now, there are serious parallels to draw between Thom Yorke/Radiohead and the great man. Both are innovative and unique, and draw upon many musical styles. They are both critically acclaimed as producing some of the greatest music of a generation. I would even go as far as to say that The Bends and OK Computer are every bit as significant as Purple Rain and Sign O The Times.
It's clearly not as simple 'if you love Prince then you'll like Radiohead' as their styles are almost polar opposites. BUT, Thom Yorke has a hauntingly incredible voice, the composition and melodies they conjured up in those early years were truly remarkable, and Radiohead have delivered truly groundbreaking music. I consider myself a man of many musical tastes and styles, which is why I gravitate towards Prince. And with that eclectic mix of music in my ears, my appreciation of great artists would be diminished without the influence of Radiohead. If you want to compare and contrast Radiohead with Prince, just take a look at the list of confirmed influences of the band – Queen, Elvis Costello, Joy Division, R.E.M., Soul II Soul, Massive Attack, Miles Davis, The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Pink Floyd. Personally I think they do justice to them all. [Edited 10/14/07 6:26am] ______________________________________

id like to hear radiohead do some spare prince-esque funk. they certainly have the ability and stylistically they're all over the place anyway. imagine the national anthem crossed with idioteque, or something

I'd be honoured - PM me and maybe we can hook up By the way, "In Rainbows" is remarkable - similarities with OK Computer, but much more liberating. Bodysnatchers, Faust Arp, Reckoner and Jigsaw Falling Into Place are sheer delights! Damn, the whole album simply eminates class. I was also thinking that House of Cards sounds like a Prince track, and then I read this review of the album... http://www.hiphopmusic.co...eview.html The 80,000 references to In Rainbows being "lush" and "sparse" were correct. People who like Radiohead with guitars and melodies should be very happy today, people who like weird bleeps and bloops maybe a bit less happy. If OK Computer is your favorite album In Rainbows might be your second favorite. 1. 15 Step - Pretty funky. I'm sure nobody will understand what I mean by this, but the way Thom rides this beat reminds me of an uptempo Nina Simone track, like See Line Woman maybe. 2. Bodysnatchers - Ummmm, hell yes. This track is hard as f*%k. Melody reminds me a bit of "Within You Without You." Or what that song would sound like if the Beatles were HARD AS F*%K. 3. Nude - Hardcore fans will know this as the legendary, long unreleased "Big Ideas (Don't Get Any)," and will be crying and/or wetting their pants to have an official version. 4. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi - Builds into a more lush, less panicked (second half of) 2+2=5.. Love how these songs gradually build momentum from front to back. 5. All I Need - The last 60 seconds are stupendous, wish the rest of the song was more like that. 6. Faust Arp - Love this one, wish it was longer. Guitar riffs remind me of "Mother Nature's Son" and Janis Ian's "From Me To You". 7. Reckoner - Nasty. For the first 8 seconds I thought this was a Dap-Kings track. Probably best song on the album. (Although it's not as good as their other song named Reckoner, which I hope is also coming out at some point.) 8. House of Cards - I'll be damned if this doesn't sound like a Prince record when Thom comes in with "I don't want to be your friend, I just wanna be your lover.." Seems to be the one fans like least, but I'm digging it. Though it does stay in the same place, where most of the songs continually move and evolve. 9. Jigsaw Falling Into Place - Also hard. But the guitars/drums never get crunchy/noisy/Paranoid Android hard, here or elsewhere. I kinda wish they took it there on at least one of these cuts. 10. Videotape - Mellow-melancholy Pyramid Song type joint. Fans are hating on the drums they added to this one, and I agree with the consensus. Still cool but would be better with just the piano. Favorites so far: "Reckoner" "Bodysnatcher" and "Jigsaw." But usually Radiohead's louder tracks grab me right away, and the quieter ones need repeated listening. radiohead's new album is really really pleasing, and it's also shaken the record industry (you can pay whatever you want for it). i would reccomend it to anyone here who's never listened to them, because thom yorke's actually happy and married and most of the album reflects that. i don't see them colab-ing though because thom can be a whiny brat when he wants to be.

I've loved Radiohead since the beginning, but kind of fell off with Kid A - 'cause I loved their songs without all the electronic broughaha. Reading these reviews, I'm going to go get In Rainbows right now!
A Prince collaboration could never happen, but I hope he gives them a listen, just the same.
