I have to admit, this album didn't leave much of an impression on me,either. After a week or so of playing it,I was already bored with it.I still like "Future Baby Mama" but I don't think I will re-visit this album very much.Prince is better than this.

I've played it repeatedly and I love many of the tracks, and am still not keen on the last couple (yes I confess i would skip these if they came up on the shuffle!).
I agree with the comment someone made earlier in the thread - he produces such volume and so frequently I think it's reasonable to expect to love maybe 3 tracks per album. It's interesting to see from this thread and others that the 3 people love is different for everyone based on their personal taste, so surely that means that all of the tracks are great for someone, just not all great for everyone? im sure there are many people like me out there who dont like ANY of the tracks

ok, Y dont we all go back to the days of MEGA super STARS and release albums with 9 songs, and release 7 of those songs as singles, and release the next album in 5 yrs..... need i say more YES!! that would beat the hell out of a crappy new cd every year. I liked when he gave a crap about quality and not quantity. Did I mention crappy?? [Edited 10/16/07 17:11pm]

Agreed. For me, it's far better than 'Musicology' (perhaps his dullest record imo ), but not as good as '3121', which, if you cut the 'Beautiful, Loved and Blessed' and 'Insense and Candles', is a pretty good album imo. I now find myself rarely listening to any Prince, partly out of a previous era of P overkill , but mainly 'cos there's just so much other great music that takes up my interest, but here's my tuppence worth - P seems to have been on semi-autopilot musically since the 'Musicology' era, releasing only 'commercial' retro-ish Prince albums, with at least a few good tracks on each record. But what are we to expect of him at this point in his career? As long as he keeps going, he'll probably drop the occasional masterpiece, like imo TRC, which came almost as a bolt-from-the-blue moment for me - 'My god, he still has the ability to surprise me by creating truly awesome, inventive music!' 'Rainbow Children' is, for me, musically his greatest and most consistent album, and it taught me never to write this man off. As ever with P, there are some still interesting moments and excellent touches throughout the album, but imo song-wise it more-or-less goes downhill after SHOE, with too many of those boring guitar pop songs with tired lyrics. And imo 'Chelsea Rogers' is quite cool but over-rated in these parts .I dig 'Guitar'. Yes it almost sounds like an outtake from 'The Gold Experience', but it's damn fun. My favourate 'Earth' track tho would be the title track. A little P-by-numbers, but when that guitar kicks in near the end, the hairs on the back of my neck ... Personally, I think he needs to take a few years out, live more widely and stop chasing those hits and doing often uninspiring new stuff that'll fit well into his live show, but bores on record. He should make a record for himself again, maybe challenge himself out of his comfort zone, as he seemed to with TRC (but maybe next time with less religious dogma in the mix). Then, we might see what this artist is truly made of now. I'd love to see what a truly refreshed, reinvigorated Prince might bring in his 50s, when/ if he starts sensing the ole' mortality/ 'must leave a great legacy' thang. [Edited 10/18/07 13:17pm]

In my opinion..The album is GREAT =] Let's go down 2 the holy river,
If we drown then we'll be delivered. If we don't then we'll never see the light. If U die before U try, U'll have 2 come back and face the light. When U believe it, U got a good reason 2 cry. www.myspace.com/xxchina
