The first time I heard it I wasn't bowled over by the overall sound (unlike the first time I heard some of the others, recently 3121, and knew I was going to love them) but then I saw him do a couple of the tracks at the 02 and having seen them live it made a huge difference to what I hear when I listen to the CD. I've played it repeatedly and I love many of the tracks, and am still not keen on the last couple (yes I confess i would skip these if they came up on the shuffle!).
I agree with the comment someone made earlier in the thread - he produces such volume and so frequently I think it's reasonable to expect to love maybe 3 tracks per album. It's interesting to see from this thread and others that the 3 people love is different for everyone based on their personal taste, so surely that means that all of the tracks are great for someone, just not all great for everyone? You might not like the taste but I'm still gonna stick your face in this FUNK

I really like 5 of the songs but I don't really care for the other 5 so the album is 50/50 to me.
I loved every song on 3121 though so after about 3 weeks of PE I went back to playing 3121 more often than PE. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

finally at last someone telling the truth....
and before people start talking and jumping all over me: #1: no i'm not looking for Prince to do an album EXACTLY like he did in the day #2: yes i think his album sucks, I can only stand to listen to two songs, the rest are just cheesy...I wouldn't want to listen to them on an elevator ride even.... #3: why can't some of ya'll just admit that the album sucks. 3121 sucked and Musicology was okay, but it wasn't "the shit" album or anything. #4: I just want Prince to go and hideout in seclusion for about 6 months or more and then make an album...I think with these albums he has been putting out the last few years all sound similar. Maybe he needs a breather to be original again. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I dont like so much Planet Earth so much....

IMO it follows the pattern of alternating decent albums...
The Rainbow Children - Amazing Musicology - Pretty lifeless except for the title track 3121 - Still listen to it at least once a week, a great overall album Planet Earth - Guitar is good (tho I preferred the Demo version!), nothing else stands out though. Looking forward to whatever comes next from the little guy [Edited 10/15/07 8:32am]

I started off after listening to the title track thinking 'what the hell is this crap'..but now I have actually grown to love it-its a grower youve got to keep listening to it..put it on your ipod and give it a few listens and I bet youll be humming along to Mr.Goodnight or Future Baby Mama.
I dont care much for Planet Earth, or Resolution but the rest I can live with, especailly Guitar and the One yoiu Wanna See they get me in the mood for a P.A.R.T.Y! I think it helps if you have seen him perform some of the songs live-thats what happened with me, after seeing him do soemwhere here on earth on 9/9/07 I thought 'Um you know what I better go back to PE and give it a chance' Oh Princey if your free for a couple of hours...If you aint busy for the next 7 years...Lets Pretend were married, and go all night..

I wasn't too sure before I saw them live at some of the main shows and 6th Sep aftershow. Mr Goodnight amuses me and I like it for that but I agree its not his best at all. Alot of the lyrics are quite dull. They are better live, but then with a song like Chelsea Rodgers you hear Shelby more than him. I'd say that song along with Guitar(which was great live when he did extended solos) The One U Wanna C are fun live but thats about it.

I don't understand why people don't like 3121 though, that album was instantly catchy and great to listen to.

Mr. Goodnight is a jam (the best background vox ever!)
Future baby Mama is one of his best slow jams Chelsea Rodgers is funky One U wanna C is not great/good but cool the rest of the album Prime aka The Kid

Not all threads are going to be loving Prince. As fans we have the right to share our opin's...If they don't like PE they have the right to post there feelings...if someone doesn't like the post then move on to the next.
None of us love everything Prince releases...otherwise he would be #1 everytime and this website wouldn't last...there would be nothing to talk about. This isn't directed at anyone so please don't go crazy...I was just expressing my opin'. I see A LOT of crazy, waste of time threads that I just by pass instead of posting something (-) negitive about the person or the thread. JMO We all Family Peace to all!!!! Prime aka The Kid

i love PE song | |

Just got back into it recently, and found I like it just as much as I did before, if not more so.
When I see people listing 'Mr. Goodnight' as one of the standout tracks, but think the rest of the album is pretty much rubbish, I know I'm on the right track.

Haven't listened to it for a while. Some of the lyrics are pure cringe worthy, most notably 'Resolution'. Sounds like a 12 year old wrote it. Probably his worst ever song in my opinion.
The title track is spoilt for me by the 'Could it be magic' section. On a plus side his vocals are great throughout. Especially 'Future Baby Mama', 'Somewhere here on earth'. And 'All the midnights in the world' has surprisingly grown on me. Very much hit and miss for me

I did a survey a coiuple of months ago on the org for people's favorite top 3 albums, and no one picked PE in their top 3 - and the album was new then! And there were more than 50 voters! This doesnt mean people dont like it, its just not a favorite.
Personally - I find the record tedious. I listened to it over and over when I got it and now, Ive just given up with it. There are so many better Prince options. If I want to listen to recent Prince stuff, PE make 3121 and Musicology sound like masterpeices - so I listen to them. My conclusion - PE is very bad indeed.
