Ha. I know what you mean. I sometimes catch myself thinking his last album was 3121. Planet Earth left zero impression on me despite me trying to play it several times in hopes of "getting" it. It's just not a strong piece of work. The fact I'm in a good mood right now is the only reason I didn't use a different word in place of "work" at the end there.

Well sorry to fly in the face of 'public opinion' but I actually think that Planet Earth is pretty good - now I dont mean I think it's as good as the stuff he did '79-'88 but to be honest nothing touched that stuff abut it was better than a lot of that dross he put out mid 90s but this album had some decent tracks on it which I would rate pretty highly - guitar, somewhere here on earth, the 1 u wanna c, and Lion of Judah.

It's better than 3121 and Musicology but maybe not as good as Rainbow children and all of these were better than most of Emancipation. In the end we all want Prince to make another SOTT or 1999 or my case Parade or Lovesexy but he wont cos he has moved on and if we like it great and if we dont well you know.

Ok please resume the moan ..... biggrin

I think most of his current output isn't bad. Compared to the landscape of music, it holds up with the best of them. I think for many fans, he's simply not challenging anymore. For all its bad rap, TRC was very challengeing as were much of the internet releases. I think PE, like Musicology and like 3121 for the most part is aimed directly at the mainstream. Not that that is a bad thing, as it gets him a bit more exposure that anything on TRC would ever.

I think the majority of us like his output and realize at the same time it's not like the past. And all of us can agree there is at least 2-3 gems on the last albums and that is all that we can hope for.

What I find interesting is how these albums fluxuate with the fans. I liked all 3 when they came out, but they waned after a bit. 3121, for me was the longest of the 3, but I found PE most engaging and instantly likeable, even though I barely listen to it now and certainly listened to it less than 3121. I liked Musicology too, but now find it a bit boring.

people don't want to hear it but he just needs to get out of the mold
he's stuck in and get someone else in to produce some stuff for him.

i can only dream of nigel godrich producing a prince album drool

he could still write and record everything but just get some fresh
new non-npg-asskisser blood in that studio and crank up the weirdness
again.

enough with this tame shit already.

I constantly find myself believing that 3121 was the last Prince album. After the first week, I really haven't played it.

To follow the perfect Superbowl performance with Planet Earth was a huge mistake. He had the world listening; a new CD with All Along The Watchtower/Best Of U on it should've been released that very next Tuesday.

Disposable album for sure. It has some stand-out melodies (the title track, Somewhere Here On Earth, Guitar), but the lyrics almost kill it all across the board.

The lyrics are embarrassingly simplistic, trite, cliched, repetitive, and lazy.

I like Future Baby Mama, Mr. Goodnight and Chelsea Rodgers but the rest of the album eek Maybe that is why he gave it away...

You sometimes tell how good the album is going to be...he didn't do jack to promot it...We saw the CD cover to Musicology months b4 it came out and he was on every channel....

yep -it's pretty much crap - with a few good songs. Again- if he focused on music and not all this shutting fan sites down bs...maybe he'd make a good record again. Course it may simply not be in him anymore. Too busy hyping without delivering.

Planet Earth is a good album. I've not stopped playing it since I got about 20 of them over the last couple of months. All those people that keep dissing it obviously don't like Prince or his music. Don't tell me you want another Purple Rain album. Go and be Michael Jackson fans, then you can listen to the last three albums he has made over the last 20 years over and over and be utterly pleased with them all. (By the way I don't actually know how many Jacko albums there have been in the past 20 years but I'm sure somebody will want to put me straight on that) To me, alot of Planet Earth could have be spread over the early 90's albums. There are alot of similarities. Keep hem coming Prince I like everything.

Peace 2 Planet Earth.

JazzMeUp

I wasn't too sure what to make of Planet Earth to begin with because it seemed a little different from what Prince had done before and I wasn't quite ready for it. So I left the CD aside for most of the summer. I don't like to "force" music into me. It has to happen naturally.

When I heard a few of the PE songs live at the O2 shows and aftershows, I enjoyed them. It was fun to watch the Twinz do that leg strumming dance on Guitar. Unfortunately I couldn't really sing along to those songs as I wasn't familiar enough with the lyrics yet.

Then, as the Summer ended, I felt more inspired to re-discover the album so I started playing it in my car before and after work. And now I really like it!

At every play, I notice something new and different in each song.

Planet Eart starts with Prince's lonely piano/voice, gradually builds up with incredible choir voices effects and peaks towards the end with a powerful guitar solo. It's a beautiful song that illustrates how this world can change if we all join in and unite. A great message.

Somewhere here on earth has to be my favourite. I love the nightly jazz trumpet and Prince's soothing voice. Listening to it feels like dipping into a hot bath. Divine!

Future baby mama has a similar feel-good vibe. And Chelsea Rodgers gives me a boost of energy whenever I hear it. In fact, the whole album generally puts me in a good mood.

There aren't any particular songs that I don't like on the album. I won't try and analyse too much why but I think it just feels right for me at the moment.

I find that Prince's work in general works better when we don't try to compare it to other albums. Each of them have their own unique qualities and as for anything in music, our appreciation of it mainly depends on our current frame of mind, the season, time of the day and where we are in our life.

Well i think P is 2 busy with Concerts and promoting that he don`t have the time 2 get creativ .I miss "the special effects"in his last albums .And don`t feel the sex on thelast albums .But he is still a great musician .I saw 3 concerts last tour and 2 aftershows .Must say the aftershows were behind this planet .Wished he released the shows .But is it still a challenge 2 make a album without sales in the shop.Must say wenn i heard grafity bridge at the 1st time i had also a feeling like no pleas go back 2 paisley park en remasterd this album. And now its one of my favorits .We schall see he suprised me allot of times .

I really like this album, even though I felt '3121' was so much better. But 'Planet Earth' is good, if only for 'Chelsea Rodgers', Prince's greatest song of the 00's.

I don't think Chelsea Rodgers is his greatest song of the 00's . . . personally I think that would go to 1+1+1 is 3 or Black Sweat.

Somewhere on earth is gorgeous. The romance of wondering that somewhere out there is your soul mate. What are they doing at this point in time? The beautiful instrumental reminds me of Nat King Cole music. I love Future baby mama,it's kind of dreamy and magical. Chelesa Rodgers and The one u wanna c is upbeat and funky. I love Mr Goodnight and and All the midnights in the world because well I love romantic songs. Planet earth isn't bad. I can understand why some guys might not like it, more songs on here for us ladies. wink

Hello, I'm about to sound like a one-trick pony here... I like the parts on Planet Earth that have a Wendy and a Lisa on it... In fact, I like thme so much, I've started patronising a new 'fast-food' outlet in my home town because it is run by a Wendy and a Lisa... God, I feel lonely.
