Planet Earth, A single review.

Let’s start with guitar.
As a musician feels a female embodiment living within his instrument, “Guitar,”
Serenades to us through his best friend. “”Somewhere here on earth,” is a sweet love letter, seasoned with a knowing that someone in particular is listening. “The one you wanna see,” addresses a woman Prince greatly respects as the song rumbles with the thunderous point…Let no man put asunder, as the song rolls to a close. “Future baby mama,” claims this Prince needs a willow on his pillow to reinforce a family he longs to create. “Mr. Goodnight,” sounds like a wise decision for a girl that wouldn’t mind jumping on a plane and having a glass of champagne. “All the midnights in the world,” begs us to count happy days, for the exchange of an endless midnight.
Prince rocks his role in, “Chelsea Rodgers,” as we dance toward the CD’s end, tamed by, “The lion of Judah,” that roars his enemies will soon be no more. The CD dissolves with the sad reminder that war is an unnecessary loop afflicting the heart of humanity. Ultimately, it is our responsibility to affirm our own, “Resolution.”
If, “Planet Earth,” is in the palm of the artist’s hand, and peace lingers in his fingers, I would have to conclude that Prince has his finger on the trigger. T

Disposable album for sure. It has some stand-out melodies (the title track, Somewhere Here On Earth, Guitar), but the lyrics almost kill it all across the board.

The lyrics are embarrassingly simplistic, trite, cliched, repetitive, and lazy.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Even a musical genius like Prince suffers from lack of inspiration and creativity at times. But I'm not giving up on him, he still got it in him. He just needs to bring it out again.
Things happen in life that can block the inspiration and creativity of the most talented musician. I think it's only temporary and before we know it, he will amaze us again.
Maybe a break, or a change of environment would help.

I really like this album, even though I felt '3121' was so much better. But 'Planet Earth' is good, if only for 'Chelsea Rodgers', Prince's greatest song of the 00's.

I feel the same way. I do like CHelsea Rodgers lyrics. They are simple, but it's a funk jam, so that's ok for me.

FunkyBrotha

his 2nd best record this decade after trc.

how can anyone not like somewhere here on earth... one of his best songs imo.
guitar is his best pop track since the 80s so simple and the riff is just cool
lion of judah...killer guitar..
chelsea rodgers ... possibly his most contemporary sounding funk track
planet earth... great guitar.. great message

I like Planet Earth. I don't consider it to be his best work (far from it), but there are a few very good songs on it and the rest are just so-so.

There is great guitar work on the album. I'll give it that. But the songs as a whole just don't hold up. IMO
