Lets praise "The vault: old friends for sale"

Personally i consider this album as one of his most enjoyable albums from the 1990's.

I love the organic sound of it, the live-feel, there are some strong melodies in the form of Five Women and the title track, otherwise its just a joy listening to musicians (Prince and the NPG) enjoying themselves.

I take this one over New Power Soul, Rave and even Emancipation.

A contractual effort, of course, but qualitywise its his one of his best albums from that decade.

What i love most about it that it sounds so carefree.

It sounds like he and his band just moved into the studio to jam a bit, just enjoying themselves while they are playing the tunes.

Much better then those attempts to shove the JW-message through our throats (The Rainbow Children) or making a halfbaken 'comeback' when your heart isnt into it (Rave unto the joy fantastic).

I find these "lesser" albums to be some of the more enjoyable ones. Maybe lite, but enjoyable.

If n e of U have evr heard the original versions of these songs U would immediately describe this Vault album rubbish, in particular the version of "Old Friends 4 sale", 1 of Prince's best ever out takes, evn the lyrics r not the same, 4 those of U that can get a hold of a copy of Charade, then U will understand that "the Vault" was a big finger up 2 WB. EYE, 4 example have nevr purchased that odd hits collection from a few yrs ago and EYE NO, many fans nevr have and nevr will.

i still think it is rubbish, although it has a few nice licks on it, especially that cover version, from whatever his name is.....But my point is the Vault was and is an album that holds no merit in a Prince collection, check out Charade, U will C what I mean

your talking shit my friend-ive been digging "charade " since 1987-this isnt a charade versus old friends 4 sale thread..

we all know that prince could release a killer outtake album.

however the vault contains such gems as WHEN THE LIGHTS GO DOWN-one of THE best prince jams-EXTRARDINARY-beautiful and brought to life so well in the ONA gigs.

she spoke to me? fantastic track

my little pill? taken from one of my personal favourite"unreleased albums"

there is lonely? a fantastic track.

5 women-a great bluesy lament.

so my friend-NO i disagree strongly and realy dont believe you know much about prince's music is your going to say"holds no merit".
