Help Wanted On Guitar Orientated Playlist At the moment I am compiling a list (totally for my own pleasure, mind) with guitar orientated Prince songs.
And what does guitar orientated mean? It means that I do not want just rocks songs, but also songs where guitar plays a main part of the melodic structure of the entire song. My first batch contains stuff like Bambi, When You Were Mine, Computer Blue, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy (extended), Paisley Park (remix), 4 The Tears In Your Eyes, She's Always In My Hair, Alexa De Paris, Sign The Times, Play In The Sunshine, IK Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, The Cross, I Wish U Heaven (Prt 2), Electric Chair, The Question Of U, Joy In Repetition. That's where I'm at. I am working my way down the albums, singles and outtakes, so somewhere down the line I will include stuff like Shockadelica and the Undertaker performance. But now I am curious; what are YOUR favourite Prince guitar orientated songs? Hit me.

Speaking as a Guitar player, I have to say Shy from The Gold Experience.
The structure and layering on this song is simply incredible. Looks like we're gonna take the long way home 2night...

The structure and layering on this song is simply incredible. That is a song that gets alot of airplay in this household. Props. I love that you love it too! And it was already on my ever expanding list.

Beautiful Strange Just My Imagination (Small Club) GOOD ONE! Crucial The Ride (Crystal Ball OR Undertaker) Don't Play Me Fascination Ewwwww. Didn't make my cut. Fury (If you have the SNL broadcast, so much the better) GOOD ONE! Two good tips! Thanks! I just did not get around going into my live folder yet.

I will throw in Billy's Sunglasses; I will have to chop it up, cuz it is way too long otherwise.
And that Days Of WIlde Wilder guitar solo. Dayum.

I'd include Shhh and Da Bang but they aren't really about the guitar.
I do like the guitar work on Bob George but its not really to the forefront, similar to U got the Look (long look) I think. Were you at the aftershow with the NPG trio. That was guitar heaven.

What about THE QUESTION OF U from the aftershow cd....10 minutes of hellacious guitar. Its on mine guitar best of.

The Cross LIVE from SOTT flick is also much better than album version.

Like I said, it's a work in progress, which means lots of double entires (different versions, though) cuz I am still deciding which version is best.
And also some songs willfall off the list; All Day All Night hasnt got Guitar (I just added it cuz in my memory it is fierce and I translated that as having guitar) and Xenophobia likewise. Also 4 The Tears In Your Eyes and When The Lights Go Down have been dropped already. I always throw in stuff, then smoothen out later. So here goes, in alphabetical order (to be able to decide what version I will pick), when I am done I am going to place them in the right order (the live version of The Question Of U from 1990 needs to be played back to back with Electric Man) and I still gotta chop the Come/Endorphinmachine medley in two.

I threw in a live version from 87, a rehearsel form 88 and the album version to decide.

I'm a huge fan of P's funk rhythm guitar work, so I'm flying the flag for such killer tracks as:
Alphabet St Sexy Dancer Controversy (so few notes, so much impact) DMSR (terrific rhythm break in there) Lolita (perhaps not a typical 'guitar' track, but there are some cracking little fills) The Word (wonderful acoustic lick) Hide the Bone Batdance Chelsea Rodgers 1+1+1=3 Too many to name live.... Also, I see Gett Off isn't on your list..? And can I just add that people discussing compilations at this level of geekery is what the internet was made for. I LOVE IT!!!! Somewhere Here On Earth

You might want to consider putting the guitar version of "Crucial" on there, too.

It's the extended part of the 1989 live version of The Question Of U. The person that tracked this live performance chopped it in two, I never corrected it. It's the part where Prince pretend his microphone stand is a woman and makes love to it.

But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.
