What is "purple banana" referring to?

In "Let's Go Crazy", the line goes: Just look for the purple banana til they put us in the truck. Speculations on what that is a reference to? I'd speculate it's what may have been in the genesis for the morhphing of sexuality and spirituality that Prince was famous for. Purple banana could be a phallic reference to God, do you think? Or something else?

I don't think it is a reference to God because why would He come and "put us in the truck"? I'll have to think on that one a while and get back to you. smile

Well, that could be a reference ("put us in the trunk") could be referring to the vehicle to Heaven.

Ray Comfort uses the banana as a proof of the existence of a God. He argues that since it is easily held, has a ripeness indication (colour), is easily peeled, has a biodegradable wrapper and is nutritious must mean that it was designed. Comfort says this designer is the Christian God.[11] However, numerous rebuttals arose explaining the dramatic differences in appearance and nature of the wild variety of the fruit and the domesticated version which has been selectively bred for thousands of years for the characteristics Comfort claimed were divinely created. As a result, Comfort conceded that his argument had no validity in 2006 [12].

This is what i found on wikipedia.

A lot of blah blah blah.

Maybe he means that you have to look out for the banana peel so u dont slip over it and end up in the truck.
What truck by the way? And where is it going?

The song is titled "Let"s Go Crazy"...I think the saying..."lets look for the purple banana" is referring to the suggestion that we break away from the dull, mundane, or whatever has brought us down....go crazy, and search for the opposite..go bananas, or nuts and find uplifting happiness!

Purple: meaning...Looking for wild, crazy, happiness Purple Prince style until they send the truck for you!

Banana: meaning...a state or condition!

Coming into a wild crazy state or condition! razz wink

OK, here it is...

Let's Go Crazy
or: Let Us Go Crazy.

"Bananas" is another expression for crazy.

Put us in the truck: refers to being loaded
in to an asylum patty wangon an hauled away.

Purple is, well "Prince's color" or, Prince.

Hence,
Let Us Go Crazy,
look for the purple banana
(go crazy with prince)
'till they put us (notice he says "us")
in the truck and haul us away to the loony bin!
wink
get it? ...at least that's what I always thought it was

hmmm ..maybe I am crazy nuts

I agree with Chewymusic...Let's go crazy, or over and beyond the mistreated
word, "Normal." and make it a point to look for a love that exists on a higher
spiritual plane...Punch a Higher Floor.

In that place we are all loved by the creator equally, and should love
eachother equally. This is where Paradise begins....Evenly distributing wealth throughout the world will soon follow.

It isn't an easy task...Everybody has to be "All-In."

I've made some enquiries at my local supermarket in London. They tell me that EU Regulations have banned bananas from being purple coloured for the last few years. I'm not sure what the position is in the States.

I always thought he said "Escape from the purple banana." I must have had too much tea.

The Purple Banana is his...manhood - take a look at the cover of the 1999 Album - look at the number 1 - there, you see the "Purple Banana". But, really, it's a double entendre - it means two things - 1) It's his penis, and 2) "Crazy", "Nuts", Wacko, "Loco" etc...

I've seen this same discussion about the song Purple Rain where people ask what is "Purple Rain" and the answer to that is - ejaculate. Pretty much every song in that era of Prince music is about sex - sometimes it's about god but sex is always involved. But again, it really is also a double entendre - 1) Ejaculate, and 2) Salvation.

Prince said the elevator was the Devil...He said in an interview with Chris Rock in '97 on VH-1. He said back then you couldn't say "GOD or Devil" on the radio.

Wow. I think ya'll are taking this WAY out of context. Like i've said before, some P lyrics like this can have a deep meaning, and sometimes the meaning is right in front of your face.
The song is called "Let's Go Crazy"
The lyric is "Let's look for the purple banana until they put us in the truck."
If any of us were out of our damn minds looking for a purple banana, we'd do it until a truck came and picked our crazy asses up.
Simple as that.
