Does Prince make you go broke?

When Prince announces another tour or a one off concert I know of fans who will stop at no length to go to any and all shows. Tickets, travel rooms etc.
My downfall is buying memoribilia on Ebay. Have you ever spent wildly on him? Was it worth it or did you regret it later?

The biggest amount of money I've ever spent on him...

I broke a 100-dollar bill on him once... but it was all I had really.
It was 7/7/07... I went back to the FYE in my old neighborhood where I grew up. There was TONS of Prince music that I hadn't seen in stores yet where I live now.

So I looked thru the stacks and found 1999, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, Diamonds & Pearls, Graffiti Bridge, The Hits/B-sides collection, and SOTT. I walked around and thought about my choices.
There was also a little thing going on: get 3 used, get the 4th free.
So I got Rave, SOTT, Chris Daughtry and Richard Marx used... along with 1999... I got Richard Marx for free ultimately (I was hoping for SOTT, but u cant control these things)...

On that trip alone, I broke a 100-dollar bill, heh. And I also got prince for a good price at Best Buy...

kinda funny... I was having a shopping spree and Prince was going round Minneapolis doing concerts that very same night. giggle
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

No, I won't allow that. As much as I may want to go to a particular show (or whatever the purchase may entail), if it has the potential to leave me in a financial hardship, I ask myself "Would Prince leave himself in a situation like this for me?", and of course the answer is "HELL 2 The NO". So I don't do it.

And even in a kinder way, I ask myself if Prince would WANT me to be left in a financial hardship due to him, and I sincerely don't think he'd want that. I mean really, for what? An extra couple of $100's in his pocket? I imagine Prince would want me to enjoy his art to the level that I'm able to do so comfortably.

If a person is inclined to spend more on Prince (or ANYTHING) than he or she can afford, then THAT'S a problem that they need to confront (like gambling or substance abuse). I don't think Prince wants to be that kind of a problem in anyone's life. His music does not suggest that sort of thinking to me, I don't believe he's that kind of a person. And even if he was, I wouldn't allow it.

I would never surrender that much power to Prince or any other person in this world, and I believe even Prince would support that kind of reasoning.

I use to get any and everything that had his name on it but I've learned in almost 30 years that's foolish, and an easy way to get ripped off, now I'm much more sensible.

Prince's cd's have never made me broke, I knew that whatever was within the music would be well worth the money....Although I have seen only a handful of concerts due to the fact that I did not have the money to attend, and That was a sacrifice that I had to make to be responsible.

Never regretted buying any of Prince's stuff. There have been times I have spent vast amounts on him, but then again, I have spent vast amounts on non-Prince things that I wished I hadn't. C'est la vie.

I wish I could blame Prince for my being broke. falloff

But if I had the money to spend I'd sho nuff spend it on a load of Prince stuff nod So I suppose there's a high potential for me to go broke due to my impulsive purchasing of Prince items and tickets, but haven't done it yet. lol

Not broke entirely, but I've certainly compromised my finances somewhat. It hasn't stopped with the concerts/travel/accomodation either - I'm about to buy an mp3 player so that I can listen to his dulcit tones wherever I go! On a more serious note though, I wouldn't start maxing credit cards to see gigs, after all I could've paid for 21st aftershow tickets on eBay, but regardless of how gutted I was not to have seen the show, it wouldn't have been worth financial despair. Sorry Prince! wink

i went to the 2001 celebration - flights, train, accommodation and car hire from london, concert tickets, etc.

and this summer 6 main shows and 15 aftershows, too scared to do the maths.

none of it wasted, though.
