Elton only sang one song with Prince (he played guitar, no singing) that night - Long and Winding Road. I felt that Elton looked a little awkward up there, I guess because he didn't quite understand all of Prince's cues to the band. The performance, I felt, was ok at best. prettymansson said: BENNY AND THE JETS !
I could see Elton sat in his stage suite - I liked the moment when Prince played a sample of "Benny and the Jets" looked over at Elton, and gave him a big smile! Max ...I go 2 the max...I'm not afraid...I wanna dance...

Respect and admiration from one music legend to another. I think Elton John's acknowledgement of Prince's mantra of "real music by real musicians" was cool and touching. I'm not an Elton John fan, but i respect anybody in music who's longvity in music is based on actual talent, showmanship and musicianship. What's ironic is that Prince has recently had Mya open for her, who is just as "pre-recorded" and pre-packaged as any other other acts Prince loathes. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

this is the same elton john that said "all religion should be outlawed" ...going on saying how all the worlds problems are because of religion. Wonder how that holds up in Prince's JW cult. EJ had some great songs in the past, but thats it. He is by far NOT a great person.

It sounds to me like you're the one with the problems regarding religions. |

Guess there aren't too many fellow musicians that he can jam that way with and he was still feeling it.

It sounds to me like you're the one with the problems regarding religions. I wasn't too keen on Elton until I saw on a tv doc here in the UK how he helped a young America lad who had aids move house(as local kids were spraying anti-gay stuff on his wall and chucking stones through windows, he got it I think through a blood transfusion at hosp not being gay he was quite young kid) and pay his med bills and all then seeing all the work hes done for AIDs. He puts on an act of being OTT but when you see some of the stuff hes done and kept quiet you can see hes actually got a big heart. [Edited 10/17/07 10:25am]

the "real music by real musicians" line is a lot of shit. primarily because, who's he (and elton john) referring to exactly? timberlake has a live band. gwen stefani has a live band. joss stone has a live band. beyonce has a live band. madonna has a live band. maroon 5 are a live band. the red hot chili peppers are a live band. there are many other rock bands who are live bands. the industry is not exactly dominated by backing-track singers. and if he's referring to hip hop he can stuck it right up his arse.
and secondly, given the amount of playback material he used in the mid-nineties, he's not really in a position to criticise. [Edited 10/17/07 18:50pm] [Edited 10/17/07 18:51pm]

^ Fair points. He's obviously isolating one section of the music community (hip-hop, mainstream r&b etc). What about the countless amazing rock bands out there right now? You have Radiohead who just delivered their 6th straight masterpiece album. I just don't like how he patronises his crowds sometimes - 'yes, this is a real trumpet!' O RLY???? NO WAI!!! Baby, that was much too fast... 1958-2016
