I thought this up about a month ago while listening through the album. Since returning to that song yesterday, I've wondering about what I said about it before. I wrote this on my blog when I first thought it up. I'm not sure if I'm right or wrong on this, but I figured I'd ask you guys.

Here's what I said:

"This is one of those tracks where he slowly comes to a realization about himself, but there’s something about it. It’s almost like he wrote this song in order to confront himself about his past and face up to a certain truth about himself. If I’m right, then that’s amazing to know he writes music for a reason like that."

any thoughts? Am I close or way off?

I guess we all try to figure out exactly what Prince was thinking when he wrote a particular song, and that's the fun of having it open for discussion...I believe the song states exactly what it's about...although death by hateful causes can be at your doorstep, at the end of the line, You have to choose love over avenging that hate.
