Dad bought a guitar.... Can anyone recommend me a prince song to learn?

Hi,

I'm a complete guitar newbie, just started a day ago, though all those basic songs sound extremely boring.... I thought that it would be better if I had one good song and tried to master that song, of course it will sound just as boring in the beginning, but after mastering it it won't.

Could anyone recommend me something? Prince played some interesting guitar solo's over the years (I can't sing due to my strange pronunciation of the English language...), would be great to play one of those solo's.

And btw, it's an acoustic guitar (if that matters for the song choice).

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm...what about "Dolphin"?

I've always thought that the song had a great and beauiful solo.

You can always ROCK OUT to "Endorphin Machine" or "So Far So Pleased".

Have fun and good luck. cool

The first song I learnt on the guitar was When U Were Mine. A great tune and pretty easy - chords that'll enable you to play loads of other stuff.

Try The Cross....if I remember correctly it's basically a major A chord and a major E chord (I'm sure he does something a bit more interesting than that, but this is at least an easy version of it to play)

I was going to suggest the same thing! You can play it with A and E (very easy chords), and after you get that down, for flair add in the Asus2.

It is just an E for four beats, and an A for four beats, and repeat. Once you have that down, then you can add the flair by playing E for four beats, Asus2 1 beat and A for three beats, then repeat.

These guys are absolutely right, learn The Cross.

It's a lovely easy chord change, perfect for an acoustic, and you can learn the little riff to weave in too.

Check it out on one of the online guitar TAB sites.

I play an open E chord then move the two fingers on the second fret up a string to form an open Asus4. That's all there is to it.

When you get going, the guitar solo on The Question of U is easy and great to play - it's one of those simple-notes-but-all-feel guitar parts.

Congratulations and enjoy!

one of the 1st songs i ever learned how to play on guitar was "I could never take the place of your man".
There's a lot to pull from that song.

as mentioned, go to be 'the cross'

after the bit mentioned above, it goes to a D major chord

tenuous link, but 'all along the watchtower' is a good one to learn when you're starting out

(well, he did it at the superbowl!)

anotherloverholeinyohead as he does now is quite easy to

A5, C5, D5

dun dun chugga chugga, dun dun chugga chugga, dun dun (rest and repeat!)

then the 4th time it goes to C#5

"For U" and "Had U"

"Lady Cab Driver" and "Controversy" are good workouts for playing a groove.

Start with chords and your rhythm playing first and get solid timing then branch off into the great blue yonder of soloing. (imo)
