Today I've been a Prince fan for 22 years. Should I... Well It's been 22 years today that I 1st. heard Prince.
I still love the music, but I'm a bit confused by his message. So here is the question: should I stop collecting Prince and sell off my collection? You may ask why? Well my collection is just sitting in about 40 boxes collecting dust. I really don't have room for it, and my wife is sick of me collecting. I used to spend up to $1500 a month. I know deep inside I'll still want to collect, but why have a collection if you can't look at it? I'll save a ton of money and room. So if you were me, what would you do? Auction some of it off on Ebay if you really want to get rid of it. However I would strongly recommend against getting rid of any of it. This Prince collection represents 22 years of your life. I'm sure some items bring back memories, perhaps good and bad. I wouldn't be in such a hurry to throw that all away. Don't worry about the message. I don't buy into any of the JW stuff either but the music still deserves my attention. Follow your heart, it will guide you in the right direction.

$1,500 a month is $18,000 a year. How in the hell did you spend this much money a year on Prince without your wife literally killing you?

Never mind the message, OR your wife!! If the music still makes u happy, then just listen and enjoy! If his new stuff is sending u a "confusing" message, then don't listen 2 it. Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

I threw out old magazines I had with Prince in them (Controversy) and really regret it as it is fun to read over what him and the band got up to back in the day and what they dressed like etc.. I would think about it long and hard The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince

Threw them out? I remember doing that to all my Cher stuff...yes I was a big fan of her in my youth, and still admire her. And I regret that too... It is clearly a choice you have to make, SexualSuicide - although if you are asking, perhaps you have moved on and no longer desire to keep them... good luck with making your decision!

Chances are you'll come back to the music someday. You could get rid of the stuff that isn't necessary and only keep the essentials. Make some money, scale down the excess, not be overwhelmed with the amount and appreciate what you do have. That's my advice.

Personally, if it was me, I'd sell the wife first.but that's me!
you obviously need to work on those priorities more!

I wouldn't sell anything ever. What do I think you should do? Give it to me . Why? Cause I'll Cherish it and keep it Protected and never sell it or give it away. It can get Old with my other Collectibles that all are Cherished and Preserved with Love.

After a certain age, say 27, I began selling off my collection of rare posters, picture discs, and whatever else that wasn't music and didn't add anything to the equation...I got a few hundred dollars for it all...
I don't know if it's old age or what, but that junk just doesn't mean anything to me anymore. I still buy the albums, though. Fear is the mind-killer.

I know how you are feeling. I have a large Prince collection that is sitting in boxes in my attic. I used to have a dream that one day I would see my collection in a Prince museum, but I gave up on that.
I would conservatively guess that my collection is worth a minimum of $5,000. The collection is full of 12s, 45s, picture discs, laser discs, posters, fanzines, magazines, tamborracas, tamborines, buttons, and just about any kind of Prince collectable you can imagine. I wish that I could meet a Prince fan who sincerely wanted the collection. I would be willing to give them a big break on the price. But right now, I don't feel that I can just "give" the collection away to someone without them paying anything for it. If I were to meet someone who was into Prince and we had a special relationship and friendship, I probably would eventually give the person my collection. I would not just give it to just anyone because then you run the risk of giving them a valuable gift and then they turn around and earn thousands of dollars selling it on eBay.

It's not a good time to try to sell a large Prince collection. The market for Prince stuff has gotten soft.
The people who do offer to buy make ridiculously low offers. I heard of somebody being offered $3,000 for a collection that he spent about $7,000 putting together. In my opinion, the best thing to do now is just to pack the collection away and store it in a safe place. When and if Prince makes a big commercial comeback, new fans will be around and you'll have a better chance to sell your stuff at prices that are fair to you.

Unless you're just absolutely convinced that Prince music completely sucks now, it would be a shame to just up and get rid of absolutely everything, right?

Sell it to NPGMC. Members need to see some better stuff in the retail section.
Now that the candles are sold out...damn. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

After reading everyones posts, I'll hang on to it for now. I'd love to see it in some type of museum. Heck I could probaly open up my own, but Prince would shut me down. Thanks to everyone who put their thoughts into this thread. PS I'll hang on to my wife, thanks. "The little 1 will escort u 2 the places within ur mind"

Tell you what. I would be happy to hold on to your collection until you do decide what to do with it. I have plenty of room in my house. I have been a fam since...let's see...around 20 years

If Paisley Park put sent out a message to NPGMC members saying that they were accepting donated Prince collectibles for display in the Paisley museum at Paisley Park, would you send them all or part of your collection without expecting anything in return?

Are you mad! Don't, I repeat do not sell or give it away. Unless that is you sell it to me. I've been a Prince fan for 22 years also and lost every LP from For You to ATWIAD due to reasons I will not mention here. I've only now just started making a dent in my collection. Give wifey dear some good funkey lovin to some Prince music and she'll be the one doing the collecting.
