The song 'Wednesday' was thought to have possibly been an early contender for inclusion. to be sung by Jill Jones.

There are. of course, several versions of songs such as 'Electric Intercourse' circulating.

I'm unaware of any evidence that 'Noon Rendevouz (Not 'Neon' - that's the title that was attributed to it on a bootleg) was intended for 'Purple Rain'.

Thanks - I saw the thread when originally posted.

There's a lot of stuff on there, but some of the labelling is poor - some of the tracks are not 'remixes', for example.

There are also at least three circulating versions of 'Electric Intercourse' (including the live performannce) that are absent.

Additionally, I've never seen any evidence that 'Wet Dream Cousin' had anything to do with 'Purple Rain'.

Erotic City was never intended for Purple Rain, it just happened to get used as
a b-side. Same goes for 17 Days, that was intended for the Apollonia 6 album.

The only tracks intended for Purple Rain that didn't make the final album were...

God
Father's Song
Wednesday
Electric Intercourse
G-Spot
Mia Bocca

I thought I saw an interview with the director of Purple Rain (may have been on the 20th aniversary two-disc DVD) and he said that Prince originally submitted about 100 songs for the movie.

If this is true, your list is very incomplete.

Magnoli does say this in the Annivesary DVD edition of Purple Rain, and, of course, it may be true.

It could be that, for example, Prince gave Magnoli 100 songs that he might use.

On the other hand, he may simply have given Magnoli a list of 100 song titles that he might consider for inclusion. Prince certainly had a significant amount of unreleased material by that stage.

That said, the thread is about songs written for the film that didn't make the album and there's little evidence that there was the amount of material described by Magnoli written specifically for the film that never made the LP.

As far as I am aware, the only time Prince has gone on record about this was back in 1998 (although it sheds insufficient light for us to be sure):

Ask The Artist (online interview published 30 April 1998):

Q: I have read that the song Purple Rain was written around 1979. Is this true, if not when was it written and what inspired it? Can u explain what it means?

prince : This is yet another fiction-based melodrama.

Q::Was Purple Rain originally planned 2 b released as a 2LP set? Why was the track Electric Intercourse suddenly deleted from the film and soundtrack?

prince : No,never... once The Beautiful Ones was completed, it was always the ballad of choice.
