Prince, you should take a leaf from Pearl Jam...

And release a live CD for each of the 21 dates. PJ did this a few year ago from a tour they did - the packaging was only basic (made up to look like bootlegs!) with a tracklist on the back and because of that the price per disc was low (and presumably the manufacture costs were too) and fans got an actual recording of the gig they were at. biggrin

I have friends who hate PJ but still think this was one of the best ideas any band has had in a while. Heck, you could even release it online-only to keep the cost even lower and have downloadable artwork too. I know NPGMC has closed, but still, surely such a big thing as 21 Nights needs/deserves something like this?

cool

bollocks, then every other 'artist' should take a bigger leaf out of Prince's book and produce a series of ground breaking albums, tours, write and produce a new cd every year etc.

this would b 2 much common sense 4 prince ..
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

This would be the only advice he would need from Pearl Jam. Ever.

It's something all artists should consider if they are particularly bootleg unfriendly... it'd be especially easy to market over the internet, too.

Barenaked Ladies sell USB sticks with the shows on them 20 minutes after they're finished. Or if you don't want to wait in a queue you can go straight to their website and order them on CD, or pay less and buy the mp3s. They do this with every single one of their shows now.

Sounds like a nice idea. Though isn't half the pleasure of being a Prince fan being able to flaunt your boots and bitch about him not releasing half the things we want biggrin

On a side note, I'd love to hear Prince do a live cover of PJ's Black, which has always reminded me of a Prince track ( think all the Too doo doo too's at end remind me of Purple Rain). Just think of the solo he would lay down razz

Metallica does something very similar to this for their last few tours and even some older ones. You can buy a CD in Mp3 or another format (forget what one) direct from the soundboard a few days after each show. Can download CD cover, CD sticker, the whole nine yards.

But like someone said, that makes too much sense for the Purple Wonder of the World to do. Too much like 'smart business'. The thing that sucks is that he does NOT need the money, so there is no motiviation for him. Music is like a newspaper to him, read it one day, use it to line the bird cage shortly after....

Depeche Mode did this too. for $40 u can get the soundboard recording of the show on CD. so much better than getting an audience recording, even if its a high quality audience recording. I'm surprised P hasn't done this yet... seeing as he's been giving away CDs at shows and all.

that's the thing.....he doesn't follow advice these days it seems, now that he is free

so you get the feeling nobody around him has any good ideas and just lets him call the shots because they are on his payroll

Isn't part of the excitement and energy of a live performance not knowing what is next? Why would anyone want to reduce a concert into a predictable dvd. The experience is never as good on both ends.

Somethings are best left in your mind, brain and imagination. PJ or The Grateful Dead are not Prince.

Prince should take a page out of the Zappa book.

Some of you guys need to quit guzzling the Purple Kool-Aid. Prince is fucking great, but he's not the end-all, be-all measure for greatness. What Prince is, is a brilliant musician who's done a lot of damned dumb things over the years.

I've got a lot of respect for the way bands like Pearl Jam have been managing things like releases and shows. Any artist -but especially one who once claimed music should be free -would do good to take notes.
