how do you know that if you don't mind me asking? It is true and well-documented that alot of the visual footage was re-shot at Paisley and, if you watch closely, you'll be able to tell which are Paisley audiences and which are European. Some of the shots that Prince gets of himself (such as the closeups with him and Cat in I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man) would be very difficult to capture at a live gig and you would of course see the cameras on-stage too, from other shots. However, when it comes to the lovely, stripped-down, guitar solo in the same song, that is clearly footage from an actual gig. But, I don't think any of this detracts from the performance or the film and I think it pretty much conveys what it was like to be at an SOTT gig - something which alot of concert DVDs don't acheive, And, in 1987, this was the hottest thing there was. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Dewrede said: Mindflux said: A majority of the soundtrack is a live recording - most of the visual aspect was re-shot at Paisley Park because of disappointing quality footage from the actual shows. Nothing wrong with that really is there? I mean, its not like he's performing to the studio versions and, clearly, he is capable of doing what you hear live, so it doesn't really matter how the end product was assembled. He could have just shelved the project after the filming of the concerts didn't work but, thankfully, he didn't but he's basically lip synching I know, mate, which would be irksome, but he didn't intend to do so, he was forced in to that because of technical problems with the live footage. Had that been good enough, I'm sure, like with most of his other live releases, we would have gotten a full live release. Plus, at least he is lip-synching to his own live performances - so, he can perform it, as we all know, but problems and, ultimately, a certain cap on the budget forced him in to this position. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Cracks me up every time.

Brings back loads of fond teenage mammories for me
But, no one has mentioned P's rather poor lip synch tecnhnique. Not just in this but other stuff too. I'm sure he'd agree that its not his best talent. That said, I have loved this film since the day it was released, particularly Forever in my life (screaming particularly) and the superfast and funky version of play in the sunshine. It sounds really great in the car too. Still want to be sick out of my eyes at the beginning when they are in the street setting playing vocal ping pong, 'you are mine, mine, no - yes - stop, why? Good question - WHY WHY WHY That sucks ass

I love you Baby, you know the rest...

That show was broadcasted in tv in Europe as well. I couldnt find it on DVD, so this summer I dusted off my double video set and got it transferred to DVD - God I LOVE watching the Lovesexy Concert. I was so delighted that we were able to get the SOTT giveaway yesterday in Ireland, watching it last night brought back such great memories, plus I realised that I still remember every bit word for word!!!

The 1987-1989 was the BEST time to be a Prince fan..creativity was just bursting out of him from every angle....he was just INCREDIBLE then...I've seen I'd make that '86 - '88 . The Parade album and shows were incredible. Whereas '89 brought Batman and the beginning of the comedown. But that's just quibbling. You're right, the mid to late eighties was just so much fun, the tours, the films, the albums, the bands, the bootlegs, the image changes - Just amazing. As I said to the many friends that got converted at the O2 - If you thought that was incredible, you should have seen him 20 yrs ago!

Is the Observer DVD comparable to the Canadian DVD? I mean, does it have real 5:1 audio and widescreen?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Wow this dvd really is a sign of the times-have you seen some of their dodgy 80's outfits!! Man the 80's have a lot to answer for!!
But still, I love it, not to keen on Prince starting off in them glasses and mack-he looks like my dad or something lol!! The music is amazing, the dancing its so energetic-it really looks like a great time was had by all, and how much fun to Prince look like he is having! Glad I picked this dvd up its my new favourite thing! Oh Princey if your free for a couple of hours...If you aint busy for the next 7 years...Lets Pretend were married, and go all night..
