1992 - 2007 is his very best period as a recording artist in popular opinion . his musicianship got more advanced .. there was a blog asking people to do a BEST OF CD from 1993 - 2007 .. I did a 2 disc set an saw each song as essential as the other .. so picking one song .. damn! . thats impossible .. but i'll say THE ONE U WANNA C .. just cos no-one else has said it .... an yes GOLD is an always will be one of his very best songs .. so what if the odd one or two people dont like it .. those who do .love it! .. myself included . that is an anthum only rivaled by PURPLE RAIN ..

Purple Rain, of course, is not in this time period, but even so. Prince is known for this song and has played it over a million times, maybe more because people expect that of him. As an anthem, I say you are right. Purple Rain rivals Gold.

But personally, I don't like comparing the two very much. Purple Rain is timeless, but Gold is very personal to me and for that reason alone, I'd say those two songs are on 2 diff. plains in 2 diff. worlds. In my rankings 4 favorite Prince song ever, Gold is #1 and Purple Rain is close behind @ #2.

GOLD is a brilliant song imo.....one of his very best.....his last really big hit in the uk ...reached number 10 in sales and number 2 in airplay over here....remember it was always on the radio....strange he didnt play it once during the recent gigs.....it wasnt a hit in america...maybe prince doesnt realise it was a big hit over here....i would pick that and empty room as my two favourites...
